How to draw up and apply a plan characterizing a literary hero

Literature is our heritage. It is her that we are obliged to thank for the fact that from the very childhood we are taught the norms of culture, etiquette. But the study of this subject in schoolchildren causes a lot of problems, especially when it comes to writing. Surely everyone had to write a character analysis after reading a literary work. How to do it? Where to begin? Just a bunch of questions in my head. That is why we suggest you to disassemble the plan for characterizing the literary hero. We will do this on specific examples. Be sure to consider and such a kind as the comparative characteristics of literary heroes. We will outline the plan and examples below.

Where to begin

Before proceeding directly to writing the essay, you need to develop a plan for characterizing the literary hero. If we do not need to compare it with someone, then it will look something like this:

  • Introduction.
  • A few words about the author and the work.
  • The role of the hero in the proposed work and its general description.
  • His views on the specific problems of the work.
  • Relations with other heroes.
  • Conclusion.

Just note that the first two items can be combined. Practice is widespread - the introduction is devoted to the work and its author. You do not need to add anything else. All the text is necessarily divided into semantic paragraphs. So it is easier to perceive. Give your attention to such a technique as quoting, this is very important. We examined an approximate plan for characterizing a literary hero, but how to apply the knowledge gained in practice? We suggest using the above for an example.

Example

To begin with, let's take a simpler hero and a work in which all the problems are clearly identified. We offer the famous story "Mumu", written by the greatest author Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev. Of course, let's take the main character. The plan for the characterization of the hero of the literary work, in our case Gerasim from the story "Mumu", will look like this:

  1. Introduction.
  2. Appearance of the hero.
  3. Personality and character.
  4. Conclusion.

You can add more points at your discretion, but we will stop here. Carefully consider all the parts, when you have made a plan for characterizing the literary hero, it is better not to deviate from it, but strictly follow the order. Here we will write briefly, at the very minimum.

Introduction

The story of Ivan Sergeyevich "Mumu" is not entirely an invention, the heroes of Gerasim, Kapiton, the lady are all real people living in the Lutovin estate.

Turgenev did not simply retell the incident with the janitor and his dog, but gave it even more meaning. The story was immediately perceived as anti-serf, it caused a tremendous impression.

Appearance

If we look at the plan for drawing up the character of a literary hero, we can see the following point, dedicated to the external appearance of a person. The most interesting and time-consuming part of the work. We suggest that you access the text more, insert as many quotations as possible.

As Gerasim shows us, this is a serious and strict mute janitor belonging to the lady, who by nature is a tyrant. Ivan Sergeevich calls him a real Russian hero, because he is incredibly strong and his height is not five centimeters two meters.

Personality

From the lines of the work it becomes clear that Gerasim is an industrious and responsible person with a strong physical body. It is unusual, which is confirmed by the lines: "... Among the whole of her servants the most remarkable person was the janitor Gerasim ..."

Another distinguishing feature of our hero is solitude, as he was alone all his life, did not like to be visited, he lived separately from his brothers. She loves the village, prefers it to the city. So he grew up alienated all his life because of his illness (Gerasim was born mute) and grew up as a strong and hardy hero, like a mighty tree.

He is a very respected person, worthy, knows his rights and duties.

Conclusion

In this paragraph it is necessary to sum up the essay.

The janitor's act is very interesting, why did he drown the puppy he loved so much? He was the only living being that reciprocated him. This act can be interpreted as follows: a protest against serfdom. I.S. Aksakov interpreted as follows: "Gerasim is the personification of the entire Russian people, strong in spirit and physically, distinguished by incomprehensible gentleness."
