How many years do they change their passports and why does it need to be exchanged?

In the Russian legislation it is written that the passport is the main document of the citizen of the Russian Federation. Moreover, it is the duty of every Russian citizen to obtain a Russian passport. But the person is changing, with him the passport must change. Thus, the state secures the opportunity to identify the identity of its citizens, regardless of age changes.

In what situations and how many years do they change their passports? Let's try to understand. Cases when it becomes necessary to replace the passport, can be conditionally divided into two groups. The first group is planned, that is, it means that a person makes a replacement for his document in connection with reaching a certain age. In accordance with the law, it is necessary to change the documents to 20 and 45 years of life. The second group implies that the exchange of the passport is caused by a vital necessity. It is possible that in your documents there are erroneous data, you have damaged your passport and it became unusable, or you for some reason decided to change your surname. In all these cases you will need to contact the FMS.

Regardless of how many years the passport is changed and for what reason, there is a certain set of requirements for the collection of documents required for an exchange. You can carefully study the "Regulations on the passport of the Russian Federation", or you can simply apply to the OFMS for explanations. Employees of the passport office are obliged to tell you which documents are needed for the passport.

For a planned replacement, you will need your previous passport, two photos, a receipt from the bank, confirming the payment of the state duty and, of course, the application. Within just 10 days from the date of application, you can become a happy owner of a new document. The main thing is not to forget how many years the passport is changed and do it in a timely manner, not later than one month from the date of birth. Otherwise, you will face serious trouble in the form of a fine and various restrictions in the rights. Yes, and how else, because a month after reaching the above age your document is recognized as invalid.

A little bit more complicated is the case with an unplanned replacement of the passport. In addition to the already mentioned set of documents, you need to submit an additional package to the OFMS, confirming your right to change the passport. It can be a marriage certificate, an application for changing a surname to a new one. If your passport is damaged, you may additionally be required to provide documentary evidence necessary for affixing various marks on your passport pages (birth certificate of your children, registration at your place of residence, military ticket). But the collection of these documents will cause much less trouble than living in Russia without a passport.

By submitting to the FMS all the required documents, you, by the way, can exercise your right to obtain an interim certificate, which, if necessary, will confirm that you are a law-abiding member of the society, and the lack of a basic document is caused by a decent cause. The issue of such a "hitch-hike" will not cost you a penny, while avoiding possible troubles.

It is not superfluous to find out about the service on the state portal for the provision of services. There you will be able to know exactly how many years the passport is changed, what requirements are set for the exchange, what is the amount of the state fee. Also, you can apply for a passport exchange and determine in advance when it is better to approach the OFMS for the implementation of the procedure itself. True, it will be unreasonable to use this service if you have not been registered there before, because the confirmation of the registration itself takes a long time, and you can simply skip the time limit for document replacement.

If the FMS employees refuse to accept your exchange documents, they delay the issuance of the passport, if you have a wrong document or you are presented with claims that are not prescribed in the legislation, you can file a complaint with the public reception on the official website of the FMS or by phone indicated therein .
