The soul of any Christian stretches to a holy place. Temples of Chelyabinsk are known to Orthodox throughout Russia. They become places of pilgrimage, where thousands of parishioners from the region and from all over the country seek. Many of the monasteries are being restored and restored, some of them were rebuilt.

The most famous church of the city

Russian Holy Trinity Church is located in the center of Chelyabinsk between the city's shopping center and the circus. Initially, the parish was called the St. Nicholas Church and was built of wood. Until 1768, he was in another place, at the intersection of the streets of Siberia and Bolshoi. Then the building acquired a new location, because next to the previous one was built the Nativity Cathedral. At the moment when the St. Nicholas Church moved, it received a new name and became known as Troitskaya. By the end of 1799 her congregation numbered about five thousand parishioners.

It was at this time that the local merchant Arkhipov began to rebuild the wooden church in stone. In 1913, the Holy Trinity Church (Chelyabinsk) was reborn. It was created in strict accordance with the architectural requirements that pertained to the construction of cathedrals. In 1914, the territory was consecrated, after which the temple became fully operational until 1919. It turned out to be unique in its way, even its layout resembles Noah's Ark, and the pseudo-Russian style only enhances the salutary impression.

The life of the monastery in times of Soviet power

During the reign of the Bolsheviks the church was closed and used for the economic needs of the city. In its walls were located institutions of Chelyabinsk. The last was a local history museum, which was in the building until 1990. After that, the monastery returned to the bosom of the Orthodox Church.

It is worth noting that the above-mentioned Nativity Cathedral could not stand and was completely destroyed. Thanks to this sad event, the Holy Trinity Church (Chelyabinsk) was considered to be the largest urban abode. About him, there are still legends, as if he was raised to the 300th anniversary of the Romanovs' house. At the moment, the restoration work is underway inside the temple , during which it is planned to completely restore the painting created in the Vasantets style.

The Holy Trinity Church (Chelyabinsk) has a unique acoustics. It is she who gives the choir a stereo effect. At a time when there are Orthodox chants, performances of Sunday and church choirs, voices are heard over the arches so that they are perfectly audible from any point. All the works sound without instrumental accompaniment.

In the temple there are parts of the relics of the Monk Seraphim of Sarov, Trypho the Great Martyr, the Apostle Andrew the First-Born, the healer Panteleimon. Another relic is kept especially carefully - the icon of the Sign of Our Lady. Shrines are considered not only valuable, but healing.

Modern History

The Holy Trinity Church (Chelyabinsk) regularly hosts the ark with holy relics that enter the city thanks to the efforts of representatives of the local diocese. Not so long ago the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the church, dedicated to the centenary of its consecration. In the monastery there are many events related to Orthodoxy. The photo below (Holy Trinity Church) shows a building that impresses with its simple but deep beauty that has survived to this day. Reviews of tourists who saw it with their own eyes fully confirm this.

The Abode of Sergius of Radonezh

Unlike Holy Trinity, this church is a small structure. The temple of Sergius of Radonezh (Chelyabinsk) is also named after St. Catherine, who in Orthodoxy is considered a martyr.

The parish began to be built relatively recently, in 1999. Initially it was a surprisingly beautiful small abode, but over the next years there was a constant work on its expansion. Now all parishioners can visit the neighboring building, which is also a temple.

According to the plan, it is planned to erect a large cathedral, which, according to the plan, will consist of the following parts:

  • The existing chapel temple.
  • The economic building with workshops and autonomous life support systems.
  • The two-level temple of Sergius of Radonezh, in which the stone of the bookmark is already consecrated, a solid foundation is laid, the walls are being erected.
  • The administrative building. There will be classes of Sunday school, sisterhood of mercy, other office space and a library. The building will be built after the completion of the main building.

At the entrance to the temple is a small church store where parishioners can purchase icons, candles, sign up for baptism or order prayer services. In Orthodox holidays, during the great days for the church, believers can receive holy water. Tourist reviews tell of the special goodness that visits everyone who comes here.

The main icon of the temple is the image of Sergius of Radonezh. People pray to her with prayers to protect children from failures in school and bad influence.

Church of Basil the Great

The temple of Basil the Great (Chelyabinsk) was erected in a cozy city park, designed by architect Kuzmin. Initially, the church was laid in 1996 and was listed in terms of a cross-shaped structure, with three apses and a developed western part. Now the main volume is occupied by an eight-slope covering, topped with a large head. The heads of the church are made of stainless steel, they are coated with a special spray, made of titanium nitride. The belfry has a small porch of the main entrance.

Shrines of the temple

The most significant decoration in the temple are icons. Almost all the images were painted by Russian icon painters in Greece, including the icons "Our Lady of the Three Hands" (1910), "Healer Panteleimon" (1908), "Two Saints", "The Savior in Thorns" (early 20th century). In the church there is a real historical relic - the image of the "Appearance of the Virgin on Piukhtitskaya Hill". He was embroidered with beads by the last nun of the Odigitriev monastery. Also in the church decoration are items made in non-traditional technology. For example, the icon "Nicholas the Wonderworker", recruited from the Ural gems, images embroidered with a cross, carved crucifixes with supports in the form of Golgotha from gems. Twelve icons have arks with the relics of holy saints.

Memory of Chelyabinsk citizens

The place where the temple was built is a memorable one for urban residents, especially tractor builders. During the war, here (near the factory entrance), the soldiers-tankmen escorted to the front. Memory of this has not worn off. Therefore, a monument to Russian soldiers was erected on the territory. It was created in the traditions of ancient Russian architecture and is a granite stele erected in the form of a candle, crowned with a bronze dome, on a drum of marble. The crown is decorated with an Orthodox cross. It should be noted that the dome is presented in the form of a helmet of the ancient Russian knight. The column is framed with a laurel crown, which symbolizes victory. Also on the territory of the temple is built a summer water-singing chapel, where molebns are served in the warm season. Temples of Chelyabinsk, whose photos are presented below, are known outside the region.

A few words about the monastery Odigitrievsky

The monastery left a significant mark in the history of the city, its churches have always been characterized by picturesque decoration and riches. The monastery was respected in Chelyabinsk, her ascetic activity was noted by Emperor Nicholas the First.

The monastery received its name in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Odigitriya", which is also called a guide. The cloisters belonged to two churches - Voznesensky and Odigitrievsky, as well as several small churches located on the outskirts.

The founder was a simple girl, who from a modest female community was able to create a full-fledged monastery. In the first years of his existence, the sisters were engaged in dressing flax, weaving, needlework, went for earnings on the fields.

Over time, the fortune of the monastery only grew. Soon there was opened a spiritual school. The holy relics began to be found in the temples, which at that time were solemnly received by the townspeople. Such a monastery was before the end of the Civil War.

During the Soviet period, nuns were arrested and imprisoned for about six months. After this, the sisters were able to free themselves and register as a religious community in accordance with the law of that time. The monastery itself was devastated and became a haven for various institutions.
