Herman Fegelein: Eva Brown's brother-in-law

Herman Fegelein is famous for being married to Eva Brown's sister (the woman on whom Adolf Hitler married in the last days of his life). Despite this, she could not save her son-in-law from the Fiihrer's anger, which from day to day was preparing for its end.

From birth Fegelein was associated with horses, in youth he worked as a jockey, winning prizes at the Munich races. Entering the ranks of the SS, he remained true to his cause, occupying ranks in cavalry troops.

early years

Born Herman Fegelein 30.10.1906 in the city of Ansbach (Bavaria). Since his childhood, he was engaged in horse riding, working in his father's school, which was located in Munich. He took part in many competitions as a rider.

In the twenties of the twentieth century in Germany there was an economic crisis caused by failure in the First World War. The riding school was forced to close, and Herman began to look for work. He met Christian Weber, who was president of the Munich City Council. The young man got a job as a groom. Weber was one of the first representatives of the Nazi Party, which at that time was just emerging. Subsequently, he helped to make Fegelein join the party and the SS.

In 1925, a young man joined the University of Munich, but left him two semesters. Before becoming a member of the Nazi Party, Herman tried himself on several services:

  • The seventeenth Bavarian Cavalry Regiment ;
  • The Munich police.

In the ranks of the SS

Fegelein Herman became a member of the NSDAP in 1932, and a year later received a certificate of the representative of the SS. Before the Second World War, he served in various cavalry units. At one time he was even the head of the SS riding school in Munich.

By the Summer Olympic Games, held in 1936 in Berlin, he supervised the preparation of trails for the conduct of equestrian competitions.

With the beginning of the Second World Herman Fegelein took part in many operations:

  • The Polish campaign of 1939, in which he was wounded;
  • From 1939 to 1941 occupied commanders of ranks in the SS cavalry;
  • From the summer of 1941 was on the Eastern Front;
  • From 1943 to 1944 was appointed commander of the SS cavalry divisions;
  • From the beginning of 1944 he became an officer of communications of the SS at Himmler and the chief of cavalry and transport at GOU SS.

In the unsuccessful attempt on Hitler, which took place in July 1944, the officer was nearby. He was wounded by an exploding bomb. The wound was insignificant, the splinter caught the left hip.

During the service, the officer was awarded more than ten titles, he was awarded 23 awards of different degrees.

A family

German Fegelein was married to Gretl, nee Brown. She was the sister of Eva Brown. The wedding took place in the summer of 1944. A year later their common daughter was born, which her mother called Eva Barbara. By this time, my father was no longer alive. The daughter of Fegelein did not live to see her thirtieth birthday, having committed suicide three days before the anniversary of her own father's death.

Death

Herman Fegelein, whose photo survived to this day, was in the immediate surroundings of Hitler, when the Third Reich was on the verge of destruction. In April 1945, the officer left the Imperial Chancery without permission, heading to his home in Berlin. The Führer sent for him SS members who immediately sought out the fugitive. He was lying on his bed, disguised as a civilian.

The fugitive, despite his requests and persuasions, was taken to the chancery. There he was deprived of all ranks and put under arrest. Two days later, the Führer learned of the more significant treason that had occurred on Himmler's part. Unable to punish the traitor, Hitler was enraged and ordered to bring him to Fegelein.

In anger he ordered the fugitive to be shot, which was done by SS members on the night of 28 to 29 April 1945 in the courtyard of the office.
