"Galazolin" drops - instructions for use

"Galazolin" is a drug used for the treatment of acute rhinitis of bacterial, allergic or viral origin, inflammation of the sinuses of the nose, to restore the normal patency of the auditory tube, which is a consequence of these diseases. The main form of the drug is drops for instillation into the nose, sold in polyethylene bottles.

The medicinal product contains the following active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride. Auxiliary components: sodium dehydrogenphosphate, disodium disodium, sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, purified water, sorbitol.

The use of the drug in the recommended dosage does not cause systemic absorption. The onset of action is observed ten minutes after instillation, remains for six hours, the vasospasm reaches twelve hours. If too large doses are used, the drops may enter the stomach and be absorbed, causing unwanted side sedation.

The active substance of the drug is an imidazole derivative. Therefore, it has a pronounced sympathomimetic effect. With external use, the drug causes a narrowing of the capillaries, quite significant, resulting in a reduction in hyperemia, edema of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx, a decrease in the amount of exudate. The drug restores normal patency of the Eustachian tubes, sinus holes , nasal passages.

The amount of the drug for single instillation is directly dependent on age. For children under two years, it is recommended to use one drop in the nasal passage for every twelve hours. For adults, a drug is used that contains several increased concentrations of the active substance. Dosage is three drops in the nasal passage every ten hours. The treatment period is one week and should not exceed this value.

Contraindications to the use of the drug: hypersensitivity to components, high level of intraocular pressure, arterial hypertension, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, severe atherosclerosis, tachycardia, age up to four months.

When administered simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants show an increase in the arterial pressure.
