Frigidity - what is it? Causes and methods of treatment

According to statistics, about a third of the female population of the world suffers from various disorders of sexual desire. Why does frigidity occur? What it is? How can I diagnose this condition? Are there effective and rapid treatments for such a disorder? Many people are interested in these questions.

Frigidity - what is it?

To date, this term combines a variety of disorders of sexual function in women. But what does "frigidity" mean? In fact, doctors rarely define such a violation as a disease. It is considered that this state, in which women do not experience sexual attraction, remain indifferent to sexual intercourse, or the sexual act is associated exclusively with negative emotions.

Frigidity can be either permanent or temporary. Some sexologists distinguish three main degrees of severity of such a disorder:

  • Some women are able to experience pleasant sensations during sexual intercourse, but can not get an orgasm.
  • The second degree of frigidity is accompanied by complete indifference to sexual relations, and physical contacts are not accompanied by excitement.
  • In the most severe cases, sexual intercourse causes a woman disgust.

Forms and causes of female frigidity

In fact, such a disorder can be related both to the physiology of a woman and to certain mental disorders. Modern sexologists distinguish several forms of frigidity, depending on the causes:

  • Primary frigidity is often diagnosed in young girls and is not considered a serious problem. After all, not all in adolescence are emotionally ready for physical intimacy, hence the lack of attraction and pleasure.
  • Symptomatic form of the disorder is associated with these or other diseases. Certainly, sexual passivity can be caused by diseases of the reproductive system , insufficient development of the genitals or some complications during childbirth. On the other hand, the disappearance of the attraction to the opposite sex often occurs against the background of hormonal disorders, diseases of the nervous system. The reason may be the use of narcotic drugs, beriberi, physical or mental exhaustion of the body.
  • There is also a so-called constitutional frigidity. What it is? The reasons for such a violation have not yet been fully explored. Nevertheless, scientists believe that the inability to experience physical attraction is caused by some birth defects.
  • The retradation form of such a disorder is said in cases where the ability to experience pleasure from sexual contact comes to a woman much later, sometimes even years after the first intimacy.
  • Abstinence frigidity develops against a background of prolonged abstinence. The prolonged absence of physical contact gradually leads to the extinction of the basic reflexes and the disappearance of the sexual desire.
  • The most common is psychogenic frigidity. What it is? Such a condition can be associated with some psychological trauma, such as an unpleasant first experience, domestic violence, rape. On the other hand, sexual attraction may be absent due to mistrust of a partner or fear, if a woman is afraid of catching an infection, getting pregnant. Long-term use of the method of interrupted sexual intercourse often leads to the development of frigidity. And, of course, it is worth mentioning that the reason often lies in the characteristics of education, when parents (or the environment) prohibit any manifestation of sexuality.

It is worth saying that there can be several reasons for the absence of sexual attraction.

Are there any treatments for frigidity?

In no case should you be ashamed or try to hide a similar problem, it is best to go straight to the doctor-sexologist. Naturally, first a complete diagnosis will be needed, which includes consultation with a gynecologist, endocrinologist and psychologist, since in this case it is important to determine the cause of sexual dysfunction. If frigidity has arisen against the background of the disease, then first it is necessary to cure it.

Some women expect that the doctor will immediately prescribe to them a cure for frigidity. Unfortunately, such a tool does not exist. Naturally, drug treatment can be effective, and depending on the results of the examination, women may be prescribed sedatives, hormone therapy. But if the cause is a mental trauma, then only regular sessions with a therapist can help. It also uses mud, massage, aromatherapy, in a word, all those techniques that help the patient to relax and liberate.
