Footballer and coach from the Netherlands Guus Hiddink (Guus Hiddink): biography and coaching activities

Some football players or football coaches are loyal to their club throughout their careers. Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson trained the same club almost throughout their career. But this is not necessarily a factor of success, which is readily proved by the Dutch specialist Guus Hiddink, who is today one of the most respected coaches in the world of football.

Player's career

Hiddink was born in Varssevelda in 1946, and it was there that his career began. First he was in the football academy of the club of the same name, and then he acted in his composition until he was 21 when he was noticed by the larger Dutch club "De Graafschap" - that's where he spent most of his career. Guus Hiddink, whose biography counts far from one club, in Grafshape was noted for having played for him about 300 matches and in total spent there 9 years. But not in a row - already in 1970, 24-year-old Hiddink moved to one of the strongest clubs in the country, "PSV Eindhoven." However, there he only spent a whole year in vain, and in 1971 he was again in the "De Graafshap", for which he played five more years. But when he turned 30, the club's management did not think that he was ready to continue to compete for a place in the first team, so Guus Hiddink went to rent in the US - there he was waiting for Washington Diplomats, where he spent six months. After that, the player went to a one-year lease in the "San Jose Ertquakes", again in the US - this was the longest departure of Hus abroad. The rest of his career he spent in the Netherlands, in 1978, moving to "NEC". And it was not until 1981, at the age of 35, that Hiddink returned to De Graafschap to finish his career in his beloved club a year later.

Beginning of coaching activities

Guus Hiddink already knew then that he would be a coach, so he returned to the "De Graafschap" not just as a player, but as a playing assistant coach. He sometimes went on the field, but in most cases helped the then coach of the club Hibu Riigroku. A year later, Hiddink was invited to the post of assistant coach in "PSV", which was very flattering, because he was led to work with the then known coach, Jan Recker. Four years in this post Hiddink, and as a result was rewarded - after the dismissal of Reker, he was offered a vacant position of head coach - so began his coaching career.

Favorite coach club

As you know, as a player, Guus Hiddink spent almost his entire career in De Graafshape, and today he is rooting for this club and is worried about him. But as a coach, Hiddink has another favorite club - and this is "PSV". The Dutch took the risk by appointing a coach without actual experience, because Hiddink was only an assistant, that is, he observed, helped, studied, but did not supervise. As it turned out, the leadership of "PSV" did not fail - the coach held on for more than three years, and during this time the club achieved brilliant results. Three years in a row, "PSV" won the Dutch championship and the same number of times - the Cup of the country. It was the real hegemony of the club on the home arena, and on the international one, too, everything turned out very well - in 1988, Hiddink led "PSV" to victory in the European Champions Cup. But in 1990, Gus could not bring his club to the championship, so he was forced to leave it, but only to return in 2002 and spend 4 more unforgettable years. During this time, Hiddink won the Dutch championship three times and the Dutch Cup once, than the fans were unspeakably pleased. Twice he was recognized as the best coach of the Netherlands - in 2005 and 2006. However, Guus Hiddink coached not only "PSV", but also other clubs.

Other Hiddink Clubs

After retiring from PSV in 1990, Hiddink went to Turkey to coach Galatasaray, but did not bring the club to the club, so a year later he moved to Spain, where he took on Valencia, but also there for 3 years coaching He could not achieve decent results. The first success of Hiddink after "PSV" was Madrid "Real". In 1998, Gus was appointed to the coaching position, won with the creamy club World Cup, but failed in everything else, so he was fired, but without a job he did not stay. Position coach Hiddink offered another Spanish "Real", not Madrid, but Betis. But even there the Dutch did not go. It is also worth noting the arrival of Hiddink in 2009 in Chelsea, with which the coach won the FA Cup, but nothing more remarkable happened, so less than a year later was fired. And, of course, the club that broke out in the Russian arena after an infusion of money, but almost immediately and went out - "Anji". Guus Hiddink became both a coach and vice-president of the Makhachkala club in 2012, but in 2013 he left both positions. So far, Hiddink no longer coached at the club level, but he still had enough jobs in national teams of different countries.

Hiddink as team coach

Guus Hiddink, whose photo on the runet most often can be seen in the company of the Russian national team, coached other national teams. The first experience with the national teams Gus acquired when he left the "Valencia" in 1994 - almost immediately he was appointed coach of his native Dutch team. As a result, he held the national team for the European Championships in 1996 and the World Championships in 1998, but could not achieve serious success in the final stage, so he had to leave. Having missed the European Championship 2000, Hiddink tried to make up for lost time, having achieved not being the strongest team of South Korea in the World Cup 2002, brought her to the honorable fourth place, after which he still left his post. In 2006, the coach brought to the World Championship another team of not the highest order - Australia, but here the Dutchman's luck was also a success. From 2010 to 2011, he also led the Turkish national team, but the results were frankly unsuccessful, so Hiddink did not even finish until the end of the contract. However, everyone knows that most of all Gus is known for having coached the Russian national team from 2006 to 2010.

Gus Ivanych

The news that the eminent Dutch specialist will coach the Russian team, has become a real boom - everyone expected a miracle from Hiddink. And he did this miracle - at the European Championships in 2008 the Russian team reached the semi-finals and got a bronze medal - everyone dreamed of such success for a long time. Since the team performed amazingly, with Hiddink was extended the contract for another two years. But happiness could not last forever - Hiddink could not get the Russian team to hit the 2010 World Cup, because in the play-offs the Russians could not beat the Slovenes. After that, Gus Ivanych, as he was called in Russia, announced his intention to leave the national team. He noted many interesting incidents, for example, when he received a suspended sentence - the duet "Sisters Zaitsev" even made the number "Guus Hiddink after the imprisonment", which literally blew up the Internet. But Hiddink in Russia will remember first of all for his sensational work with the national team at the 2008 European Championships.

Where is Hiddink now?

The last place of work of the Dutch specialist was Makhachkala "Anji" - so where is Guus Hiddink now, who is training? After in 2013 he left "Anji", Gus took a break and refused coaching. They even started talking about the fact that Hiddink can finish his coaching career, because he is already 67 years old, and this is a considerable age, which is difficult to combine with the stresses that are inevitable in such a position. But Hiddink denied these rumors, signing a contract with the Dutch team, which will come into force in August 2014, after the World Cup in Brazil. This means that it is Gus who will train the Dutch for the European Championship 2016.

Achievements of Huss

As a result, Guus Hiddink collected an impressive number of awards for his career - he won six times the Dutch championship, four times - the Dutch Cup, one time he went to the Super Cup, as well as the European Cup, the FA Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. With the teams of Holland and South Korea, he took fourth place at the World Championships, and with the Russian team - the bronze medal of the European Championships.
