Sansevieria, or flower pike tail, as it is called in the people, - the plant is very beautiful and original, but it is absolutely unpretentious, so that even a budding florist can easily cope with it.

Description

Sansevieria belongs to the Agave family. Its homeland is the territory of savannas and semi-deserts of Africa and Asia, where it everywhere grows wild. The flower of a pike tail is a stucco plant, which is a rosette of dense fleshy lanceolate leaves, with good care capable of reaching a length of up to 1 meter. In the room, several varieties of sanseweria are grown, differing in the shape and length of the leaves, as well as their coloration. The most common:

  • Sansevieria three-striped, whose leaves are decorated with light cross strips;
  • Sansevieria trifasciata laurentii, the edges of which adorn a light yellow border;
  • Sansevieriya Khan, whose leaves are broader and shorter;
  • Sansevieriya Khana Golden - a hybrid with a squat shape of the rosette, whose leaves have a light border along the edge.

If to provide comfortable conditions of existence and due care, in April-May you can be pleased with the flowering of a pike tail (flower). The photo shows what the inflorescence of this plant looks like: milk-white small flowers, in shape resembling lilies, collected on a delicate fragile flower stalk. They come from a pleasant vanilla fragrance, which intensifies at night. Each plant can bloom only once, and after that the rosette stops releasing new leaves, so you should take time to prepare the planting material for the reproduction of sansevierium and preserve this original species on your windowsill.

Care

As already mentioned, the flower of the pike tail - a plant unpretentious. This is due to the fact that it feels rather comfortable in the arid lands of its homeland. Here and in the room, Sansevieria will require minimal effort from you.

Accommodation

The caudal tail grows well in the sun and in the shade, except that varieties with mottled leaves require a little more light to preserve the pattern. In the winter, Sansevieria grows well under artificial lighting. Well tolerates direct sunlight.

Watering

Being a native of dry savannas and semi-deserts, a flower of a pike tail can manage for a while without watering, but does not like waterlogging. Watering is moderate, in winter it can be reduced up to 1 time in 2-3 weeks. When watering the plant, it is necessary to protect the center of the outlet from moisture, otherwise the decay may begin, which is fraught with even the death of the flower. Sansevieria can do without spraying, it is enough to wipe the leaves from dust from time to time.

Top dressing

In the warm season, you can feed the plant with fertilizers for cacti. In winter, the number of feeds is reduced.

Transfer

The pike tail is transplanted, usually every 2-3 years, if it is noticeable that the roots of the plant protrude from the pot, and it becomes cramped. Capacities for sansevieria are better to choose shallow, but wide, as the root system of it is located in the upper layer of the soil.

Reproduction

Propagate the pike tail in several ways:

  • By dividing the rhizome - cutting the root into pieces in such a way that on each segment there is a growth point;
  • Side shoots - separating them from an adult plant, and retaining in a container with water until the roots appear;
  • Leaves - separating from the leaf of an adult plant areas of 8-10 cm, and placing them in a hotbed with wet river sand until the appearance of roots, buds and shoots.

As you can see, the pike tail is a room flower, which is very easy to take care of. Very little attention and care on your part - and your interior will decorate the original and very beautiful plant!
