Flag of the Gypsy. History and culture of the Gypsy people

In the reference literature, instead of the usual word "gypsies", the term "rum" is often found. The answer to the question of why this preference is given priority is to be found in the distant past. In this article, you can read about the history of this people and find out what the Gypsy flag looks like.

Ancestors of modern Gypsies

It is worth noting that the term "Roma" is distributed exclusively in European countries and on the American continent. Armenians of these people call "crowbars", and Palestinians and Syrians are "houses". In the environment of linguists, there are two versions of the origin of modern Roma:

  1. Very long ago, the north-western regions of India were populated by a nationality, some of which migrated to neighboring states.
  2. Many centuries ago gypsies settled in the territory of the Roma power (Byzantium), where they lived almost three hundred years. Accordingly, they called each other the Romans. Thus, after the term was extracted from this name and introduced into the Gypsy language, it acquired a new sound, i. E. "Roma". Despite a logical explanation, all the same ancestors of wandering gypsies should be sought in India.

It would be wrong to think that the Roma had set out on a journey without a specific purpose, where their eyes were looking, or wandered in search of adventure. Apparently, they left their homes, as they say, not from a good life. To roam the gypsy was caused by serious reasons. Most likely, they were driven by economic considerations. Only in the uncharted territories was the public for tabor artists, many new customers who were interested in divination. Craftsmen were able to trade the result of their labor. The history of the gypsy people is filled with pain, but the people did not forget about the fun and dances.

Passionate people

There are differences between the Roma depending on their country of residence. Understand the composition is not easy. There are different ethnic groups with different dialects, occupation and other specific characteristics of culture and ethnos.

Gypsies are original people, for whom universally recognized human values are in the background. A completely different attitude to gold and freedom. Representatives of this nation are unrivaled thieves. Roma tend to take revenge on anyone. About passionate gypsy love, too, legends go, and emotions filled with emotions touch the soul. The music of the Gypsies wears a special color, so it is always pleasant to listen to the works of the camp.

Problems with education

But among the Roma, with rare exceptions, you can find representatives of intelligent and creative professions: architects, painters, writers, etc. These freedom-loving people venerately honor their national identity, they do not "dissolve" in the culture of the place where they have to live by fate. There is even a flag of Gypsy.

Despite the fact that representatives of the Roma nationality are found practically in all corners of the globe where there is a civilization, they managed to preserve their cultural identity. Including the characteristic caste division of the members of the community. Once upon a time, the Roma had a custom, according to which a gypsy family took on the education of strangers' homeless children. Each mother taught her daughters wisdom of fortune telling.

The role of men and women in the camp

According to the Gypsy tradition, several families were united in the camp. Each of them had the right to withdraw from this collective when there is a desire. The maximum number of mobile tents reached 25. All that could be earned, it was necessary to split equally among all members of the community, including the disabled and the elderly. The exception was made by representatives of both sexes who did not have families, each of them could count only on half of the appropriate share. Earned went to men's and women's groups, between which were established communication and mutual assistance.

Gypsy culture is a shock to civilized nations, but despite this, many traditions have remained to this day.

Rules of life in the camp

All those who lived in the camp were compelled to strictly observe the laws of morality established in the collective. The punishment was exile for a while or forever. At the head of the camp was an authoritative leader, to whom everyone had to obey unquestioningly. He could also serve as a judge if necessary. But once the leader made an unjust deed once, how he was immediately deprived of his powers and expelled from the camp.

In the camp the men occupied the leading position, i.e. A woman regardless of age should have been obedient to her husband or father, respectively. And the duty of women was to ensure that men and families were fed. The flag of the gypsies can be seen in almost every camp. Some are surprised that the nomads have their own symbolism.

The man was given the opportunity to acquire several wives, who actually became his workers. It was profitable. Polygamy guaranteed not only coziness, but also some degree of material well-being. Nothing surprising, because the peculiarity of the gypsy family is that fortune-telling women and beggars provided their closest people with money.

Female share in the camp

According to the Gipsy tradition, the father, giving out his daughter in marriage, paid the bride. To create a marriage, girls of 15 or even 12 years were suitable. The woman, who for the first time became a mother, wore a special headdress, confirming the fact of her marriage.

From that moment on, she could go outside and beg for alms. The Roma family has a large number of children. Therefore, the woman-mother had to work very hard to all of them to dress and feed. When she went to work, the children remained at best under the supervision of grandmothers of old age. Such living conditions of the younger generation explain why not all of them managed to survive.

Such gypsy customs are shocking. Repeatedly raised the question of how the children of this people grow, but traditions remain, and not all are ready to destroy them.

The origin of the Gypsies, religion and other characteristics

In view of the prevalence of Roma in their language dialects are present. A migrant or sedentary gypsies have to learn the language of the region in which they need to live. The historical relationship of the Roma with India confirms the fact that their vocabulary contains almost thirty percent of the Sanskrit (ancient Indiano) borrowings. The Gypsy flag appeared relatively recently for these reasons.

As for religion and beliefs, there is no permanence here. Gypsies quickly adapt, i.e. Rituals of the local population. In any case, they remain superstitious.

Also, the surrounding environment has a significant effect on the diet and style of clothing. In the crowd, a gipsy is easy to recognize by its long broad and mottled skirt, traditionally its earrings are decorated with earrings, neck - necklaces, wrists - bracelets, fingers - rings. And the music of the Gypsies is the most recognizable and sincere.

National flag

In 1971, in the capital of England, the World Congress of Roma was held, which approved the national sign. The upper part of the panel is painted in blue, symbolizes the sky and spirituality. The lower half primarily symbolizes the surface of the earth, a green field; Accentuates attention to such traits of the character of the Roma as practicality and their characteristic cheerfulness. The flag of the gypsies carries a special meaning.

Multicolored horizontal bands have the same height. The boundary between them is an axial line that passes through the center of a red wheel with eight spokes - a symbol of the path. This element of the flag indicates that the Roma prefer a nomadic way of life. The wheel is painted in color, associated with the blood of those gypsies who died during the Second World War. Initially, the flag of the Gipsy was with a golden wheel.

According to an optimistic explanation, the wheel has a red festive color, because representatives of this people are very fond of the holidays. Gypsies, who belong to different ethnic groups, use different shades to depict the wheel (chakra) on the flag.

There is also a gypsy's own anthem. It can often be heard in camps near towns.
