About the theater

The musical comedy (Ekaterinburg) opened its doors in 1933. The city's management decided that the people needed a theater, where cheerful musical performances would take place. The city was the capital of a huge area, where factories were opening and the population grew larger. Workers needed an interesting leisure and cultural rest. The genre of the operetta was perfect for these purposes. The director of the created collective became Leonid Lukker - the actor of a drama.

Muscomedia (Ekaterinburg) on the way of its formation cooperated with eminent directors, artists, stage designers, choreographers from Leningrad and Moscow. And also artists from these two cities were engaged.

The first performance that was staged in the musical comedy of Ekaterinburg (then Sverdlovsk) was the Broadway contemporary operetta "Rose Marie", created by American authors.

The theater gained popularity as soon as it began to exist. Proof of that are the newspapers and magazines of those years.

The musical comedy of Sverdlovsk grew, accumulated experience, multiplied its successes. And today it is an eminent theater, which is among the best in our country and is known abroad. He is proud of his artists, productions, conductors, directors, musicians, artists, dancers, choreographers. Not only classical works are staged here. The troupe actively cooperates with contemporary poets, composers and playwrights. There are such performances, which were written specifically for the muse committee.

Most recently, a photo encyclopedia was created, which reflects the entire history of the theater. It contains photographs of actors, directors and other personalities that the collective is proud of. Many of these names are legendary, and the memory of them is kept carefully.

In 2013 the musical comedy celebrated its 80th anniversary. To this great date the collective went without wars of a creative nature, without great losses, without sharp changes in leadership and directions in work, without revolutions. The theater was able to preserve its traditions. Here they honor the old school. At the music club, a laboratory is opened, where new ideas are created, interesting performances are born, the directors are given complete freedom of creativity. All this is thanks to the talented and creative leadership of the institution.

Theater performances have been awarded many times with various awards, including the most prestigious ones. In the money box there are seventeen "Golden Masks". In 1983 the Sverdlovsk operetta was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. And three years after this event, the theater, the first in its genre, received the title "Academic".

The music of Yekaterinburg is always in sight and often turns out to be on the top step of the pedestal, bypassing its metropolitan colleagues. On his stage more than ten premieres of world significance and scale were held. Here a whole galaxy of talented artists has grown up. The theater has been brought up by more than one generation of spectators.

Main director

K. S. Sterzhnev is the main stage director of the theater performances. In 1977 he graduated from the Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography in Leningrad.

In the same year the musical comedy (Ekaterinburg) invited him to his staff as a director. After 9 years he became the theater's principal producer. This position holds up to now, for almost 30 years now.

Kirill Savelievich for the years of his creative activity has put more than forty performances. He works as an invited director in many cities of Russia and abroad.

In 2004, K. S. Sterzhnev was awarded the title of "People's Artist of Russia". In 2008 and 2011 Kirill Savelievich became the winner of the Golden Mask Award in the nomination "Best Director" for the musical "Dead Souls" and "Silicon Fool".
