Flag of Africa - the fight against colonialism

Africa is a continent in second place in terms of population size and population. The continents do not have their own banners. There is no such thing as the "flag of Africa".

Countries in Africa

On the vast territory of the "black continent" are more than 50 states, each of which has its own flag. There is a conditional division of Africa into 4 parts - Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern. The regions do not have their own banners either. Among the continental and insular countries of this continent, an overwhelming number of states are states that have received independence at different times. The rest, in a small number - colonies, protectorates or self-proclaimed republics, but they also have their own national flags. This flag of Africa, like the banner of the Isles of St. Helena, the Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, has on its canvas, in the upper left corner (at the shaft), an exact copy of the English flag, which speaks of colonial dependence on this country.

Country key symbol value

As a rule, on the flag of the country there are always symbols speaking about its history, origin or religion occupying a dominant position in its territory. But the main role of the narrator of history is assigned to the color scale, and the flags of African countries (if their photos are placed on one page) with their colors will surpass the most multicolored mosaics. It is even noticed that there is no banner here, which would not be attended by at least one of the shades of the Olympic rings. Against the background of the general African riot of flowers, only the banners of Libya, Mauritania and Nigeria look modest.

Special situation in South Africa

The number of tones and the intricacy of the forms of all surpassed the flag of South Africa, more precisely - of the South African Republic. It was approved immediately after the victory over apartheid - in 1994. 7000 works were submitted for the announced competition. The project won, in which, according to the jury, the past, present, and even the future of the country were reflected. The colors of the former state banners-white, red and blue-have been preserved. To them were added the tones of the flag of the African National Congress, which put an end to the system of apartheid (in the translation from African dialects - separation). And it was so deep that the ban on mixed marriages, adopted in 1949, seemed a trifle. Oppression of Africans by representatives of the white race, the number of which has never exceeded 21% of the population, has always been carried out since the colonization, but in 1948 segregation was fixed at the state level. The black population was pushed into reservations (bantustans) on a tribal basis, the territory of which was forbidden to leave them categorically. The flag of Africa representing this state of apartheid in the world arena, or rather, its colors, was the basis for the new banner of the new state and symbolized the impossibility of a return to the past.

The past and the future of African countries

On the mainland, many countries with a very interesting history, which is reflected in all the attributes of state power. One of the most tragic pages of the peoples of the "black continent" is the struggle against the colonialists. But in the 30-40 years a number of countries of North Africa was occupied by fascist Italy with the goal of turning the Mediterranean into internal waters (with the occupation of Abyssinia, the fascists began to call it "our sea"). The fact of national liberation from the Italian invaders found a place on the banners of the North African countries. Thus, the flag of Africa representing the Republic of Somalia, in gratitude for helping to overthrow the invaders, borrowed a blue color from the banner of the UN.

The second largest continent of our planet is a "treasure trove". There is no useful mineral, which in large quantities would not contain the bowels of Africa. This is a promising area. In the near future, developing countries in Africa, such as South Africa (part of the BRICS countries), will take, like China, their respective place in the ranking of world economies.
