Flag and the coat of arms of Novokuznetsk

Any city has its own symbolism - the coat of arms and the flag. These are symbols of the municipal formation, which help to easily distinguish one city from another. Novokuznetsk (like one of the most ancient cities in Russia) has a very rich history associated with changes in its symbolism.

History of the coat of arms of Novokuznetsk

Images on city seals, which were previously considered arms, appeared in the seventeenth century. By the time the foundation of the city of Novokuznetsk was established, a system of coats of arms had already formed in the Russian state. However, at the same time, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the so-called "tsar's seal" was actively developing. It was her who managed to get the new city of Kuznetsk.

In 1635 appeared the first description of the press: "On the Kuznetsk - a wolf." The wolf was used as a symbol of the savagery and severity of this uninhabited land.

A hundred years later, the wolf on the seal was replaced by an urban emblem. Now the wolf no longer just stood, but ran along a clean field, and around him words were depicted about this Siberian province. Such a change occurred for the reason that Catherine II legislatively approved a special provision on the basis of which each city must necessarily have its own seal with the coat of arms.

Later, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Alexander the First issued an order on the basis of which Kuznetsk received a new coat of arms in the form of a shield executed in French manners. The new coat of arms was actively used until the Revolution in 1917.

In the first years of the Soviet rule, the tradition of using arms was a thing of the past. But each city needed its own symbolism. It is for this reason that the image of Kuznetsk was completely changed.

To pay homage to his past, in honor of the 380th anniversary of the city, it was decided to return the old coat of arms of the city of Novokuznetsk, which was actively used since the beginning of the nineteenth century.

But there is one interesting fact. Numerous inhabitants (Novokuznetsk) use the city's coat of arms with different images. Someone more like the coat of arms that exists at the moment, but someone prefers to use the Soviet image. For this reason Novokuznetsk is one of the few cities that can boast of the opportunity to use just two emblems with different images.

The Soviet arms of the city of Novokuznetsk: description

In Soviet times, Novokuznetsk also had its distinctive coat of arms, but it looked quite different.

The Soviet coat of arms was approved back in 1970. As the coat of arms of this city, a heraldic shield with an image was used. On a snow-white background of a shield, which personified the snow-white nature of Siberia, an image of a stylized section of a blast furnace is placed . This cut is made in bright red light, and next to it is a black square. Together, these two figures are symbols of the industry of Novokuznetsk. From the black square emanate rays that reflect the solar energy. In the upper part of the shield it is possible to consider the conventional symbols for the walls of the famous fortress of Novokuznetsk. This is a kind of tribute to the rich and interesting historical past of this city.

Modern Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of the city of Novokuznetsk acquired its modern appearance after the adoption of the Resolution of the City Assembly in March 1998. This coat of arms is not only a symbol of the city itself, but of the whole region.

Description of the City Emblem

The coat of arms of the city of Novokuznetsk is presented in the form of a shield, which divides the horizontal line in two. In the upper half there is the Tomsk emblem, on which a white horse runs along the clean green field to the right.

In the lower part of the arms there is a forge on a gold background and all the instruments of labor belonging to it. This is a kind of tribute to the occupation of the indigenous population of the Kuznetsk Territory.

The horse, which is depicted on the top of the coat of arms, used to be called "Kuznetsk". This breed was considered very hardy, hardworking. In addition, she was famous for her ability to independently obtain even subsistence from deep snow.

Flag of Novokuznetsk

The flag of the city is a large rectangular canvas that is divided horizontally in the center by a wide strip of black color. The resulting upper field is colored white, and the bottom - in green.

In the center of the picture there is an image of the coat of arms of Novokuznetsk.

All colors used in the flag bear their own meaning. The green-white background is the correspondence to the colors used in the flag of Siberia. In addition, white color is associated with virginity and innocence, and green - with hope and abundance.

The black strip, dividing the flag, characterizes the coal seams that are on the Kuzbass.
