Fanfaron - it's a braggart, trumpet about their imaginary services

Who is this fanfaron? This word, which has a contemptuous and ironic tinge, is now obsolete and rarely used. A typical example of fanfare in the classical literature can be called Khlestakova, the hero of Gogol's play The Inspector General.

Trumpeter of self-praise

Fanfaron is not a musician playing a wind instrument called fanfare. But both words are very close in sound, and this is understandable. To imagine what a fanfare looks like, it's easy if you've ever seen a soldier's or a pioneer horn. All these instruments are designed to give certain signals, but the sounds of fanfare are more solemn, bright, and major.

So the fanfaron also always needs to look brilliant in order to convince others of their importance. It does not matter that under the lacquered stitches he has lacerated socks, and in the pockets the wind plays, but he will all sound about two villas on the Cote d'Azur and a large bank account. His indefatigable fantasies, he gives out at face value, and when unmasking the deception is not at all upset. After all, very soon the fanfaron will forget this and find a new audience, ready to listen to his stories.

Fanfaron and society

In most cases, fanfare does not cause any harm to others, causing only a slight annoyance. It's worse when people start lending money to a liar for his imaginary projects, risking never getting back their money. It is useless to accuse him of fraud, the fanfare will take it as an insult, because he himself sincerely believes in the grandiosity of his plans and the inviolability of imaginary air locks.

He could be considered an ineradicable optimist and, in general, a good guy. Only loud statements of the fanfaron are never backed up by business, under external bombast there is an ordinary, unremarkable person.
