English Foxhound is a short-haired hound, bred in England specifically for hunting foxes. The history of this breed began in the Middle Ages. Despite the abundance of sources telling about the origin of foxhounds, it is impossible to reliably determine which dogs were crossed for the derivation of this species of hounds. It is generally accepted that the main reason for breeding the breed in question is the wide spread of fox hunting. The main criterion for breeders of that time was the ability of the dog to run fast and the ability to work in a pack.

Appearance

The modern English foxhound is a small-sized dog (about 60 cm at the withers) with a strong and slightly elongated physique, a broad back and muscular shoulders. Straight short hair is characterized by increased stiffness. If we talk about the health of the representatives of this breed, then with proper care, foxhounds can live up to 10-13 years. The weak place in dogs is unless the hip joint and kidneys, so it's worth paying close attention to them. Hardly yet there is among other breeds the same diverse color that the English foxhound possesses. Photos of these dogs clearly demonstrate the current situation. As it was already written above, the exterior of the dog had absolutely no significance for the hunters, so the color of the foxhound can be any - one, two or three-color. The combinations can be composed of three basic colors and their shades, namely: black, white and brown.

Unfortunately, the ban on hunting with baiting has significantly reduced the number of these dogs, but so far anyone in the nurseries around the world can get a representative of the English foxhound breed. The purchase price will largely depend on the pedigree of the dog. However, before deciding to buy a pet of this particular breed, the following facts should be taken into account.

Firstly, the English foxhound is, first and foremost, a hound dog, which means that it needs space to give vent to its hunting instincts. She should run a lot and if possible train to take a trace. This breed is an excellent option for owners of private houses and outdoor enthusiasts. Foxhound will become an excellent companion in hiking and cross-country training. Representatives of this breed are very active on walks and often run away from their owners, so the leash and the collar should become indispensable attributes of a four-leged-headed paddock, especially in urban conditions. If you are not completely sure that you can provide the dog with all the conditions for maintaining an excellent physical shape, it is better to stop your choice on some other breed. And secondly, the English foxhound is a social dog, so it's best that she feels herself in the company of several relatives. Contain a representative of this breed can and in a city apartment. Funny and mobile foxhounds are easy to train and get along well with all members of the family.
