Elevated neutrophils are stab nuclei - what can it talk about?

Not all of us can understand medical terms. For example, if the results of the tests indicate elevated neutrophils stab, what can it talk about? First we will understand what this term means.

What is neutrophils?

Another name is neutrophilic granulocytes. This is a kind of leukocytes, which have a huge value for the human immune system . It is thanks to these white blood cells that the body can withstand bacterial infections. The place of formation of neutrophils is the bone marrow. In the tissues of the body they come from the blood and contribute to the destruction of foreign, pathogenic microorganisms. Then the neutrophils die.

If an infection gets into the body and an inflammatory process develops, it is the stab neutrophils that are released into the blood.

Elevated neutrophils are stabbed-what can cause this?

In an adult healthy person, the level of these blood cells is 6% of the total number of leukocytes. In children, this indicator can vary depending on age. So, for a newborn, the norm is the content of stab neutrophils in the amount of 17%. Up to a year this figure should decrease to 4%. From one year to adolescence, the number of neutrophils increases to 5%. If the stab neutrophils are raised in a child, the causes of this phenomenon are the same as in adults.

An increase in the number of neutrophils in the blood is called neutrophilia.

The number of neutrophils in the blood increases due to the following reasons:

  • Acute inflammatory processes (pneumonia, peritonitis, sepsis, otitis, appendicitis);
  • Intoxication of the body (mercury, lead);
  • Endogenous intoxication against necrosis of hepatocytes, diabetes mellitus, uremia, eclampsia;
  • Quite often the stab neutrophils are elevated during pregnancy ;
  • Infectious processes caused by bacteria, some viruses, fungi, rickettsia, spirochetes;
  • Physiological and emotional overstrain.

Especially pronounced elevated neutrophils are rod-shaped in the blood with such purulent diseases as phlegmon and abscesses.

In more rare cases, an increase in the number of these blood cells occurs as a result of myocardial infarction, bronchial, gastric, pancreatic, stroke, trophic ulcers, medications (corticosteroids), extensive burns.

Causes of a decreased level of neutrophils in the blood

The analysis can show not only elevated neutrophils stab in the blood. The level of these blood cells can be reduced. This phenomenon is called "neutropenia." The following conditions provoke a decrease in the number of neutrophils:

  • Bacterial infections (paratyphoid, typhoid, brucellosis);
  • Viral diseases such as viral hepatitis, influenza, chicken pox, rubella;
  • Thyrotoxicosis;
  • Diseases of the circulatory system: iron deficiency, hypoplastic, aplastic, megaloblastic anemia, acute leukemia;
  • Anaphylactic cheek;
  • Taking certain medications (cytostatics, painkillers, anticonvulsants);
  • Hereditary predisposition to this condition.

Now you know what causes the rise and fall of neutrophils in the blood, as well as their permissible norms, and can easily determine the state of your body at the moment.
