Dysphoria is what? Dysphoria: symptoms, causes

All people are imperfect, sometimes somebody feels anger towards the surrounding world and society, is in a state of increased irritability or subject to the influence of other components of a bad mood. But, unfortunately, very few people know that these are the first signs of one unpleasant disease.

Description

Dysphoria is a state of low mood, which is accompanied by particular malice and irritability. The name of the disease has Greek roots. After all, in the translation, the word "dysphoria" is "torment, suffering." This is how patients describe their condition when they go to a doctor.

People with dysphoria, as a rule, do not suffer from mental or physical blockage. But they often have attacks of activity, restlessness, as well as outbursts of anger and aggressive state.

Often, dysphoria is the main component of depressive syndrome (depression). In addition, she often goes along with other mental illnesses. For example, in some cases of epilepsy before or after a seizure, manifestations of dysphoria can be observed.

Causes

To great regret, at the moment, scientists have not identified a disease that would definitely accompany dysphoria. The reasons for its occurrence can be very diverse. Doctors distinguish the following list of diseases in which dysphoria is observed:

  • Oligophrenia;
  • Brain atrophy;
  • Senile dementia;
  • epilepsy;
  • Psychopathy (both excitable and other types);
  • Brain diseases associated with vascular insufficiency;
  • Suffered strokes;
  • Organic brain diseases.

In addition, dysphoria is an ailment that manifests itself not only in mental illness and during periods of hormonal changes, but also under stress, depression.

Symptoms

In the world, it was decided to divide into two degrees of the disease: mild and pronounced. And the first is often not considered seriously. At an easy degree all the symptoms are not very pronounced, and they do not particularly interfere with the patient's life. Most often they are simply considered a feature of character. These include: causticity, grumbling, cynicism, etc. These symptoms can affect both all spheres of human life, and in some cases manifest themselves in relation to any particular things.

At the expressed degree all is more difficult. Her symptoms are accompanied by despair, fear, anxiety. Outbreaks of anger can reach the highest level, accompanied by physical violence.
If a patient is diagnosed with a "dysphoria" at a given degree of the disease, the symptoms will be as follows:

  • Frequent motor excitement.
  • Non-accommodation.
  • Periodic stupor.
  • Dullness of consciousness.
  • Dissipation.

Individual groups of dysphoria

On the basis of this disease, the following divisions were identified, which relate to various disorders in the genital area:

  • Postcoital dysphoria is a period of bad mood after sexual intercourse. This state can last from a couple of minutes to several hours. The first mention of this phenomenon is recorded in ancient Rome. The writer Petronius said that all living beings are sad after sexual intercourse. Postcoital dysphoria, as a rule, is typical for men. This is due to the change in the hormonal balance and the transferred physical fatigue. In women, this type of dysphoria often has a psychological character - dissatisfaction with yourself or a partner, concern with various problems, etc.
  • Premenstrual dysphoria. As a rule, it is caused by a change in the hormonal background and is observed only in women. The given diagnosis can be exposed only in the presence of more than five signs from the resulted list:
    • Changing appetite.
    • Depression or anxiety.
    • Deterioration of sleep.
    • Frequent mood changes.
    • Headache.
    • Fatigability.
    • Irritability.
    • General oppression.
    • Depressed.

Gender dysphoria: what is it?

Among mental illnesses in the field of sexual self-awareness, one more terrible deviation stands out. If a person suffers from what feels in the body of the wrong sex, then he can be diagnosed with "gender dysphoria." What it is and what are the reasons for its appearance, is still not precisely known. They include various hormonal disorders, hermaphroditism, a violation of intrauterine development. Many people with this disease suffer greatly because of the condemning attitude of society and the inability to achieve what is desired.

Treatment

Any procedures for getting rid of the disease are prescribed depending on the severity of the disease.

If a patient is worried about mild dysphoria, treatment can be reduced only to psychotherapeutic techniques and various auto-training sessions that can reduce anxiety and relieve all tension.

If we are talking about the expressed degree of the disease, then the process of getting rid of the disease changes radically. For starters, the patient is prescribed special drugs with a corrective effect of behavioral reactions that have a hypnotic effect, as well as neuroleptics-antipsychotics. If these measures did not help, then the treatment course includes tranquilizers. After the attacks are stopped, the medication is continued until the cause of the disease is eliminated.

With special forms of dysphoria, the approach to treatment can differ substantially. For example, postcoital disorder is not treated in any way. To get rid of it, it is enough for a patient to make efforts for self-improvement.

As for premenstrual dysphoria, it may require the use of various devices: pain killers, hypnotics, sedatives. If this sexual deviation occurs very often, you should visit a gynecologist for advice. In such cases, hormonal correction is possible.

Treatment of gender dysphoria is a very difficult process. It is selected strictly individually for the patient. Most often the patient is prescribed sex hormones, it is recommended to visit the beauty salon and perform a laser operation and correct the speech. These procedures are the easiest way to turn a man into a woman and vice versa. The most effective method of treatment is a surgical operation to change sex. But such interference in the human body is carried out only after consulting with a psychiatrist to exclude possible psychological illnesses.
