Duty free shops are the main factor in the development of international trade

An independent part of modern international relations are free economic zones. To one of the most common types of them today are FTZs - these are customs territories where the process of selling goods occurs without levying duties and other restrictions on foreign trade. Among the free zones in the first place include special duty-free shops.

Location of shops

Most of these stores are located in major international airports. The most common and popular type of duty-free is the shops located in the transit and departure areas. In addition, the sale is also carried out through kiosks and individual racks, as well as in the air. Prices in duty free on board the aircraft are much lower than in the airport zone. This is mainly due to the minimum cost of trade, the only drawback in this is a limited assortment. Today duty-free is another Internet-shop, the services of which are used increasingly. Choosing the goods online, you can pay it on board the plane of the international flight specified when ordering.

Also duty-free shops can be found at checkpoints on the border of neighboring states, which are crossed by car or on foot, as well as in major international seaports. The ships have a wide range of names. The prices here are usually increased, which is explained by the rather long period of the sea trip.

Purchases

Basically, purchases made in duty-free are goods that are conditionally divided into two groups. The first consists of a traditional set, and the second depends on the specifics of the state.

The traditional group includes:

  • alcohol;
  • tobacco products;
  • Cosmetics and perfumery;
  • jewelry.

As for specific goods, today in the duty-free shops you can buy almost everything you want: modern gadgets, clothes, souvenirs and much more.

Rules and restrictions

Indeed, duty-free retail outlets are an excellent opportunity to purchase different products at favorable prices. But there is also the second side of the duty-free medal: these are the rules and restrictions that exist when selling in such stores.

The norms of the organization are regulated by the laws of the country in which they are located. And they are not the same for different states. So, for example, duty-free Sheremetyevo is regulated exclusively by the legislation of the Russian Federation, in Frankfurt by the laws of Germany.

Also, the rules are established depending on the customs conditions for the import and export of goods in the countries that are to be visited. For each state, the restrictions are individual. But there are general rules:

  • When purchasing, it is mandatory to have a foreign passport and boarding pass ;
  • Limited amount of names and quantities of purchases;
  • Limit on the total amount of acquisitions;
  • Restrictions on the export or importation of a certain group of goods, which most often include tobacco products, alcohol, coffee and tea, perfumes and other specific products.

Duty free shops are the basis for successful economic development through international commodity turnover and increased investment.
