Doubles and mystifiers: an insect similar to a grasshopper - it's not a grasshopper yet

Have you ever seen a grasshopper? And did you know that this cute holosite insect is a predator? Hiding, he can wait a long time until an imprudent victim appears. The grasshopper attacks all those who are smaller in size, and sometimes even those larger than him. Grabbing the victim with tenacious and strong paws, he tears her powerful jaws apart and immediately eats. Children who have caught grasshoppers remember: the bite of a green, brown or brown performer is serenade very painful. The insect easily bites through the skin.

Green, but not a grasshopper

There is an insect that looks like a grasshopper so much that an inexperienced look does not immediately distinguish one from another. It's a locust. The life of a locust takes place in two phases. At the moment of "loneliness", the mare takes a protective color, leads a relatively quiet lifestyle. In the second stage they form flocks. This is the main difference between locusts and a grasshopper: an insect similar to a grasshopper is herbivorous.

Straying into flocks, short-eared counterparts of a grasshopper can destroy hundreds of hectares of crops within hours. Such flocks are moving with frightening speed, and they have not yet come up with the means to combat them. What else distinguishes the thunder of fields from a grasshopper? Short mustache, shorter than the master serenade, hind legs, powerful forelimbs. The locust does not jump, that's why its legs are weaker. Finally, the grasshopper destroys insects, saving people from them, and the locust destroys farmland, causing harm.

Another double

Another green insect, similar to a grasshopper, is a mantis. Of course, the entomologist will easily distinguish one species from another. However, citizens are not always able to understand who is in front of them. Moreover: not everyone can see the mantis, so cleverly he pretends to be a green twig. Even some insects do not see it among the foliage and descend directly onto a predatory insect, instantly becoming its prey.

Praying mantis can be recognized by a characteristic stance resembling a praying one. He has a triangular head, very long front legs. During mating, the females bite off the male head, but even being decapitated, he fulfills his duty to the "wife".

Either a wand, or a flower

A stick is another insect, similar to a grasshopper. In the daytime he pretends to be a flower or a branch (for which he received the name), and at night he looks for plant food. Even looking closely at the leaves, you hardly distinguish a stick from a twig. In Russia these insects are green and small, but in New Guinea there are individuals up to 20 cm long. Color they take under the color of the surrounding foliage. These individuals can often be found at exhibitions of exotic nature.

There are at the grasshopper "doubles", many times exceeding it in size. On the barrier Reef, one can find a domesticated giant Ueta. The insect, similar to a grasshopper, grows to 9 centimeters, but weighs almost 80 grams. This is a record among insects.
