Disease of the brain: a description of the disease and treatment

In the human brain, there are special cavities in which the cerebrospinal fluid accumulates . These areas are called ventricles. Also under the shell of the brain of the head is a certain volume of fluid, thanks to which the intracranial pressure is maintained normally and the brain is not injured when it strikes the head. The development of the substance involved in the ventricles.

Sometimes it happens that the fluid becomes too much: this state is called "edema of the brain." Pathology can occur after trauma to the head, transferred infectious diseases (meningitis or meningoencephalitis), as well as the development of brain tumors. Often dropsy of the head is the result of strong intoxication of the body.

When the volume of the fluid increases, the intracranial pressure increases , convulsions develop, and vision falls. Pathology affects the trunk of the brain, as a result of which movement is disturbed by the eyes, strabismus develops, or the visual organs are sent spontaneously downward. When the disease becomes lethargic musculature of the legs and hands, which the patient hardly controls.

A cerebral cortex strikes a blow on the mental function. During illness, patients suffer from nausea and vomiting after sleep, they are tormented by migraine-like pains, unpleasant symptoms in the head, which also occur after an overnight rest. Pressure jumps, palpitations can occur, sweat secretion increases. Patients become irritable, quickly get tired, they lose their sex drive.

The cerebral cortex is treated with both traditional methods (shunting) and modern endoscopic methods. Shunt operations in 85 percent of cases have a positive effect, however, in half of the cases complications occur. The principle of intervention is to install systems of tubes and valves that remove excess fluid from the brain and direct it to the right atrium or abdominal cavity. Most patients in the treatment of dropsy have to undergo several operations during their life by shunting, and the person becomes dependent on the work of the implant.

Today, the priority direction of treatment of hydrocephalus is endoscopy. People with a diagnosis of "edema of the brain" using this method can be operated on in various ways. Thus, endoscopic ventriculocisternostomy of the bottom of the third ventricle, septostomy, aqueductoplasty and other methods are used.

The most successful and widely used is the first way to treat edema of the brain. In this case, the pathways of outflow of cerebrospinal fluid from the area of the ventricles to normal brain cisterns through which the fluid is sucked as in a healthy person.

The advantage of endoscopy is the absence of implants and related problems (the need for revisions, infections). Treatment of dropsy in this way significantly reduces the risk of complications. At endoscopy, the operation is less traumatic. After treatment, the patient's quality of life is significantly improved.
