Decoupage cutting board yourself

In each house, periodically or permanently, there are beautiful napkins with drawings that I would like to keep for a long time, but it is unlikely that someone will hang them on the walls. Yes, and the durability of this decoration leaves much to be desired. And here's what, if you do decoupage cutting board using these napkins. By the way, you can not only decorate it, but also plates, cups, trays, decorative bottles, vases, etc. Some lovers of this technique even decorate furniture in this way. But believe me, even decoupage boards can carry away so much that all friends and acquaintances will acquire original helpers mistresses.

First we'll find out what kind of technique it is. Decoupage - the decorative design of any surfaces with drawings printed on paper or fabric. For delicate work, for example, decoupage cutting board, dishes, boxes, frames, etc. use decoupage sheets or multi-layer wipes. In the latter only the top layer with a pattern is needed.

Before decoupling a wooden cutting board, you should clearly define the design. But for any decoration it needs to be cleaned and sanded. This can be done with sandpaper under number 0. Sometimes it is necessary and degreasing. The most accessible option is white spirit or regular alcohol. Further, decoupage of the cutting board includes the stage of applying a background and processing surfaces that will not be decorated. Methods of applying a background are various: from a primer with subsequent painting before applying a self-adhesive film.

With a picture on a napkin or decoupage sheet should work well. To begin with, it is neatly cut out (well manicure scissors are good). All cavities and places with a background are better cut out. On the edges of the background can be left a little, but after applying to the surface it is carefully masked with a background shade (for example, paint).

Next, the napkin is lightly sprinkled with water and spread in place of the future location. Decoupage boards, like any other object can consist of several elements of drawings. After that, the entire image is carefully processed, applying glue over the pattern. For such purposes, you can use a special solution designed specifically for decoupage, or it can be diluted with water PVA.

After all has dried up, it is possible to cover with a protective layer of usual transparent varnish. If you plan to use the board, then varnishing must be repeated several times, after the previous layer dries, if as a picture, then one layer is enough.

Decoupage of a wooden board differs from the design of utensils made of metal or ceramics only by the process of grinding. For plastic items, this process is also sometimes needed.

For more decorative, some elements of the picture can be painted before varnishing. Also, often before the decoupage of the cutting board, a preparatory stage is carried out, for example, pieces of the egg shell are attached over the entire surface and then it is grounded a little and painted. This technique is called the egg krakla. Often use a coating craquelure. Apply it after all the decor elements are already placed in their places and glued. This paint will give the effect of a cracked pattern. In this way, the drawings are artificially aged. Sometimes some places are simply wiped with sandpaper or with a metal brush. This, too, will give the effect of antiquity.

Sometimes, before applying the background with a primer, some decor elements are applied. For example, the effect of crocodile skin or simply reliefs. You can also use the bas-relief frames that surround the picture. Depending on the image and the desired result, they are applied before decoupage or after it.
