Dandy Dinmont Terrier: description of the breed, photo

This little cute dog treats a fairly ancient breed - the dandy dinmont terrier. She was brought out in the course of breeding, on the basis of old Scottish terriers. It was intended for hunting, so all the qualities necessary for it were instilled in it-quickness of reaction and movement, small size, sensitivity, etc. Bedlington terriers and skye terriers were used in crosses. Today, these sympathizers completely forgot about their hunting past and turned into lovely companions.

External Features

Dandy dinmont terrier has an unusual appearance - it has an elongated trunk (which is rare for terriers). It is flexible and strong. The limbs are powerful, but rather short, and the hind legs are much longer than the forelegs and are wider.

Growth at the withers is no more than twenty-five centimeters. Dependence of body length and height at withers is traced. The length should be less by 5 cm twice the height. An adult weighs about 10 kilograms.

The dandy dinmont terrier has a large, wide head between the ears. The forehead is rounded, tapering to the muzzle. Jaws are powerful, designed for successful hunting. Pretty large and black nose. Wide-set, large, round-shaped eyes, very expressive. At one of the European exhibitions a representative of this breed was awarded the prize "For the Most Beautiful Eyes".

The ears are large, hanging, at the base they are rather wide, the tips are rounded. The coat is short (not more than 5 cm). On the trunk and at the top of the tail, the hairline is coarser and darker. The wool on these sites does not fit snugly.

On the head there is a characteristic fluffy hat, the mustache and beard are prominent on the muzzle, neat brushes on the ears. The coat has an undercoat, quite soft to the touch. It should be remembered that the tassels on the ears, tuft on the head and wool at the bottom of the trunk should be carefully combed.

These dogs can have a color of the color of mustard or pepper. The latter varies from light silvery to dark bluish-black. Especially appreciated dogs with intermediate tones. The limbs can be painted in a tan color, and the body is tawny or fawn.

Character

This breed breeders love. First of all, for their character - they are kind and funny dogs. They are devoted to their master unlimitedly, they are affectionate and tender creatures, although they are suspicious of strangers, however, this does not last long.

These charming little dogs are excellent companions, they are ready to accompany the master in all his affairs. True, there is a small drawback for the dandy - he is somewhat selfish. He needs to be the only friend for his master, and only he is allowed to protect him. It is unlikely that he will tolerate other pets, especially dogs. Although there are pleasant exceptions in every rule.

Puppies dandy dinmont terrier

Usually in dogs of this breed five or six puppies are born. The color of the young can be very diverse. Babies born with a dark color, with age, acquire peppery color, and with sable fur become mustard. Change in color occurs at the age of seven months. And the final color is formed by three years.

Puppies of this breed are surprisingly sensitive. Even at a very early age, they differ in an innate sense of dignity. They are stubborn and strong kids. They should not be trained for a long time and persistently - they learn the commands from the very first time.
