Dandelion roots: use and contraindications

Due to the fact that the roots of dandelion are useful, its application is quite popular not only among healers, but also among professional doctors and pharmacists. This plant is 5-50 cm tall (perennial). The root is usually vertical and thick. Casting it are grouped in a socket and reach 25 cm in length. In spite of the fact that in different plants they seriously differ, as a rule, they are peristoplastic or pinnately divided with denticles along the edges, directed toward the ground. Inflorescences are baskets. They have a wrapper of many lanceolate dark green leaves. The basket is on hollow flower heads.

The most famous, of course, are not the roots of a dandelion, the use of which has long since found its niche in medicine, and its fruits are well-borne seedlings with tufted parachutes. Because of its healing properties in the old days, this flower was called "odoleten-grass."

Thanks to substances that contain dandelion roots, their use is recommended for a variety of ailments. In particular, the plant has carbohydrate inulin, various proteins. In addition, it contains tannic and mucous substances, fatty oil, sterols, potassium and calcium salts, organic acids, resins, sugars, glycosides, flavonoids. The leaves of the plant have a lot of iron, vitamin C and phosphorus.

Than the root of a dandelion is useful, it is known to all doctors and folk healers. In particular, it is used to treat gastritis with secretory insufficiency, diabetes mellitus, chronic and atonic constipation, with diseases of the gallbladder, spleen and kidneys. It is also useful in the case of cholecystitis, cholangitis, hepatitis. Found the roots of dandelion application and with cholelithiasis, to improve the condition in case of sclerosis. They are used as a sedative and hypnotic in nervous system disorders, they also help to improve metabolism, with breast ailments (mastopathy, tumors).

A mixture with chicory helps with fatty liver infiltration. Combining the root with yarrow and calendula, you can get a drug that enhances the work of this organ. There are drugs from it and contraindications. Carry out treatment with the help of dandelion roots is not possible in case of propensity to diarrhea, with duodenal ulcers and stomach ulcers, gastritis, acute conditions with bile duct obstruction, individual dislike. In addition, in large doses it is better not to use it during pregnancy and lactation.

Harvesting of dandelion root is carried out in September-October. According to studies, it is during this period that it contains the maximum amount of inulin. Drying the raw material is done in two stages: first it is wilted in the air until the end of the discharge of the milky juice, then in the oven or in the attic until the roots acquire fragility.
