"Corvalol": instruction, action of the drug and indications for its use

"Corvalol" is a sedative with an antispasmodic effect. Widely used in the expanses of the former USSR, it remains unknown in most European countries, and in some states (for example, the USA) it is strictly prohibited to import this drug. This is due to the composition of the drug "Corvalol". The instruction contains its detailed description.

"Corvalol" is available in the form of drops. It is a colorless, strongly smelling transparent liquid, poured into bottles of dark glass. The drug contains ethyl ester of alpha-bromoisovaleric acid and sodium phenobarbital. These substances are considered drugs in many countries and are banned for sale and importation. The first of them has an effect similar to valerian extract, only stronger: calms, relieves nervous tension, and with prolonged intake in large quantities produces a hypnotic effect. The second is a rather serious sedative, which, in addition, has a noticeable vasodilating effect. The instruction accompanying the "Corvalol" preparation says that it also contains peppermint oil. This component dilates the blood vessels and relieves their spasms, gives the drug a pleasant smell.

The use of "Corvalol" is shown with increased irritability and neuroses, hypochondriac syndrome and panic attacks, spasms of coronary vessels, increased arterial pressure, tachycardia, cardialgia. Due to its spasmolytic properties, "Corvalol" (the instruction confirms this) is able to eliminate spasms of smooth muscles of the intestine. He effectively fights with sleep disorders, contributing to a peaceful night's rest, restoring strength. "Corvalol" is the means that are taken during heart attacks before the arrival of the "First Aid". Known and non-standard application of this drug: it helps to fight herpes rashes. Applying the "Corvalol" from herpes externally, the patients achieve an excellent effect: noticeable and long-healing ulcers pass within just a few days. To do this, the cotton bud is moistened with "Corvalol" and several times a day they lubricate the rashes before they are healed.

Inside the drug is taken, depending on the indications, 2-3 times a day. A single dose is from 15 to 50 drops - it is determined by a doctor. In vascular spasms and tachycardia, it is usually greater than with neuroses and insomnia. Individual intolerance of the drug "Corvalol" is possible - the instruction warns about it. In addition, if the dose is not selected correctly, the patient may complain of dizziness and unusual drowsiness. Cope with these phenomena is very easy - just reduce the dosage. With prolonged admission, addiction often develops, and then the cancellation of Corvalol may be accompanied by a worsening of the patient's condition.

Children "Corvalol" (if necessary) is prescribed in the amount of 3 to 15 drops per day. The dose and duration of reception is determined by the doctor: in this case, it depends not only on the clinical picture, but also on the age of the patient. In addition to the individual intolerance of the components of Corvalol, the drug is also contraindicated in renal and hepatic insufficiency. In view of the seriousness of the action of this drug, it should in no case be taken alone, without consulting a physician.

The drug is not recommended for pregnant women. During lactation, Corvalol should also not be prescribed: contraindications to its use require termination for this time of breast-feeding.

Store "Corvalol", like most medicines, in a cool and well ventilated, inaccessible place for children. The shelf life of the drug should not exceed five years from the date of its release.
