Climate of the Urals: a description of the features by districts

Between the West Siberian and East European plains stretches the geographical region of Russia called the Urals. It is he who divides the continent of Eurasia into two conventional parts: Europe and Asia. The region is divided into 5 components: Northern and Southern, Middle, Polar and Subpolar Urals. Sometimes allocate regions-spurs: Pai-Khoi and Mugodzhary. The climate of the Urals will be discussed in this article.

A small characteristic

The mountain range stretched from north to south, longer than 2 thousand km. The Ural Mountains are relatively low: the average values of the peaks reach a mark from 300 to 1200 m. The highest point is the city of Narodnaya, its height is 1895 m. In administrative terms, the mountains of this region belong to the Urals Federal District, and in the south they cover part of Kazakhstan.

Due to the fact that the peaks are narrow in width and the height of the elevations is small, there is no clear weather for similar areas of the territory. The climate of the Urals has its own distinctive features. The mountains have a significant effect on the distribution of air masses due to the fact that they are stretched meridionally. They can be called a barrier, which does not let the western air masses deep into the mainland. For this reason, the amount of precipitation varies on the territory: the eastern slopes receive less rainfall - 400-550 mm / year; Western - 600-800 mm / year. Also, the latter are more susceptible to the influence of air masses, the climate here is humid, temperate. But the eastern slope is located in a drier continental belt.

Climatic zones

The territory encompasses two climatic zones: in the extreme north of the Ural Mountains the subarctic belt, the rest part lies within the temperate climatic zone.

It should be remembered that the weather of the Ural Mountains is subject to the law of latitudinal zoning, and it is here that it is particularly pronounced.

Pay-Hoi

This old mountain range is located in the far north of the Ural Mountains. The highest point of this region is the city of Moreiz (height 423 m). The linear elevation of Pai-Khoi is not a mountain chain, but separate hills. The climate of the Urals in this territory is clearly pronounced subarctic, altitudinal zonality is not observed. This is a region of permafrost, most of the year here is dominated by winter, and the average air temperature in January is 20 ° C below zero, in July - +6 ° C. The minimum mark in winter can reach -40 ° C. Due to the peculiarities of the climate in Pai-Hoi, the natural zone of the tundra is expressed.

The Polar Urals

The northern part of the Ural range. The conditional boundaries are Konstantinov's stone in the north and the river. Hulga in the south. The region stretched for 400 km, width from 25 to 125 km. Mount Payer (1499 m) is the highest altitude. Cold and snow-covered winters, strong winds, a lot of precipitation are the peculiarities of the weather of this region. We can say that the climate of the Urals is quite severe here. It has the characteristic features of a sharply continental one. The minimum air temperature in winter is -50 ° C. Summer and spring are short, several days a year, the mark may rise to + 30 ° C, but it can hold only a few hours.

Subpolar Urals (climate)

The conditional borders of the region are p. Hulga in the north and Telposis in the south. This is the highest part of the Ural Mountains. Here is the most distinctive peak - the city of Narodnaya. On the tops you can find glaciers. Also in the Subpolar Urals, the greatest amount of snow falls, than in other regions. Average air temperatures in winter - minus 22 ° C, summer is warmer than in the Polar Urals, the atmosphere warms up to + 12 ° C. The summer lasts only 1,5 months. The maximum amount of precipitation may exceed 1000 mm / year. Therefore, the Subpolar Urals, whose climate does not quite please heat-loving people, is not recommended for recreation with the family.

North Ural

The conditional border from the mountain massif, which was called the Kosva stone, in the south to the town of Telposis. The peculiarity of the region lies in the fact that it extends by several parallel standing ridges, between which there are uhaly up to 60 km wide. At the foot of the mountains impassable forests and swamps. Because of this, the region is very complex, difficult to navigate and poorly explored.

The climate of the Northern Urals is severe. On the tops of the mountains, snowfields lie year round. In some places, glaciers of small sizes are also found. The height of the snow cover in the mountains is 1.5-2 m. The climate of the Northern Urals is considered quite dangerous. After all, it is in this region that the difficult pass of Djatlov is located, which became known after the tragic events of 1959. In this place, under obscure circumstances, a group of student tourists died.

Middle Urals

Conditional borders: the Kosvinian stone in the north and the city of Jurm in the south. Length of 400 km, well-defined geographical feature: the region resembles an arc. This is the territory with the lowest heights. The climate of the Middle Urals has a pronounced continental affiliation. The average mark of January is minus 18 ° С, and the temperature of July often reaches + 18 ° С. Maximum frosts can reach -50 ° C, winter lasts steadily from November to April. The rest of the year is short with dramatically changing weather. The climate of the Middle Urals, unfortunately, can please only a cool, windy and rainy summer.

Mugodzhary

A number of low stone hills, the southern spur of the Ural Mountains. The whole territory is on the border of Kazakhstan. Small heights of 300-400 m, due to this on the territory of the continental dry climate. There is no snow cover, frosty temperatures are observed rarely, as well as precipitation.

Southern Urals

The length of the region is 550 km, stretching from the river. Ural in the south to the river. Ufa in the north. The widest part of the Ural Mountains. The climate of the Southern Urals is continental, most correctly expressed: the cold winter is followed by a hot summer. I'll cool down here with the Asian anticyclone, and the tropical winds coming from Asia determine the hot weather. A frequent phenomenon in the winter is snowstorms and blizzards. The snow cover is stable and lasts for 170 days. Average temperatures: January - -22 ° C, July - + 19 ° C. Therefore, the climate of the South Urals can be confidently called one of the most stable.
