Few historical facts

For a long time already the ancient Chernivtsi took their rightful place in the list of Eastern European and Ukrainian cities. Historians propose the theory that the name of the settlement relates to the city's multi-population city, which was located on the southern borders of the Galician state. It was called "mob", or "black city", and was built on the left side of the Prut river. It may be that this name originated from oak trees, which were changed by the chernozem of the fortress walls. The fortress itself fell under the destructive influence of the troops of Burundai - the Mongol conqueror. Therefore, since 1259 the population has migrated to the right bank of the river. The first mention of a written character about Chernivtsi is found in manuscripts belonging to the Moldavian master Alexander Dobru. They issued them in autumn 1408 to Lviv merchants. Therefore, the eighth of October is considered the official birth date of the city. The city of Chernivtsi at the time was located at the intersection of the road from south-western Europe to the Balkans and Turkey.
