Bright sights of Kerch

Kerch is one of the oldest settlements in the whole Crimea, the history of which is 26 centuries old. Life here is closely connected with antiquity. On each street you can meet with various historical things: thus, walking along the paths of Mithridates, you can step into the fragments of lacquered black antique utensils inadvertently. Plates from the walls and floors of antique buildings were used here when laying most of the city's stairways and sidewalks.

Sights of Kerch: Crypt of Demeter

This is one of the main attractions of the city, located in its heart. The crypt in Kerch was opened in 1985. Its arch and walls represent a unique example of Bosporan painting of the first and second centuries, which has exclusively mythological subjects. Here all frescoes are executed in a colorful floral style, which is typical for the painting of the Bosporus kingdom of the first half of the first century.

Sights of Kerch: Mithridates staircase

It was built in the 19th century. The staircase is large enough: it is built of 432 steps leading to Mount Mithridates. Arriving in Kerch, which attracts thousands of tourists, this staircase is simply necessary. Here the observation platforms are decorated with griffins and flower vases made of stone. The steps near the museum are located at the very top of the mountain. It is a complete copy of the temple of Theusa.

Sights of Kerch: The Imperial Mound

It is one of the few preserved to this day monuments of burial, which is dated 4 c. BC. It resembles Egyptian tombs according to its purpose. In the mound, the dromos (stone corridor) leads to the crypt, in which the tomb of the king was located. Archaeologists believe that in this place King Levkon I could be buried, under which the city reached economic prosperity and power. Hence the name of the structure.

Sights of Kerch: Melek-Chesmensky mound

This mound is very similar to Tsarskii, although much smaller than it. There is an assumption that he is much older. Considering the sights of Kerch, photos of which can be seen above, it is worth noting exactly the mound, striking in its size: 6 * 60 m. Its space increases when moving inward. Dromos and the crypt are a single structure, since there is no distinction between them. The corridor passes gradually into the funerary pit. This feature gives the crypt an impressive and distinctive look.

Lake Chokrak

"Chokrak" is a "fontanel". This lake is famous for the fact that its therapeutic mud has truly healing properties. This source of health is 20 km from the city near the coast. The village of Kurortnoye is the nearest settlement to it. The lake is shallow enough, its depth is no more than one meter, the area is nine square kilometers. Sources of hydrogen sulfide pass along the bottom, while on the eastern side there are sources of clean water. From the Sea of Azov , water does not enter the lake from behind the sandy natural mound.
