Briefing is a discussion or a press conference

Briefing is a short briefing for journalists, which allows them to navigate through the program of an event and understand some aspects that should be taken into account when covering the current news (program).

Currently, almost every press conference is called a briefing, but this is wrong. After all, even if you look at the encyclopedic dictionary (by the way, there is no "briefing" in the foreign words dictionary), you will find the following definition: "The briefing is the most brief press conference on which the position of the government on any issue is stated."

But we should not take the briefing as attempts by the government, officials or press department of the Foreign Ministry, somehow affect the course of coverage of the people's action, the summit, the campaign. After all, a briefing is just an auxiliary tool (component), which makes it easy for journalists to do their hard work.

Forms of briefing

In Western countries, very often a briefing is a form of breakfast with the media. But the press conference may well be an independent broadcast on television, especially if it solves some general issues or global problems.

Quite often there are situations when the TV workers themselves organize such press conferences, and then we can safely say that the meaning of the word briefing is expressed in the form of an independent genre of analytical journalism.

In this case, the organizers invite to the studio a famous politician or public figure, artist or musician, so that he can express his point of view on some actual and actively discussed in society problem. And also, while there is a briefing, the importance of which is the presentation of the opinion to the society through the media, the guest undertakes to answer the attendant questions from the participants present.

During the process of recording a program or direct broadcast, questions can be asked not only by the organizers of the meeting and the employees of the channel, the right to a question to the guest is available to all present, as well as journalists from various print media, radio and television programs.

It should be noted that such events have a high demand, because they almost always turn into a heated discussion, which is interesting for viewers and influences the popularity of the channel that organized it.

Such discussions are often filled with a real drama of development of events, a collective search for an exit from the existing situations, so this allows the transfer (program or TV channel) to attract a significant audience of viewers.

At the same time, it should always be remembered that by participating in such a briefing, any member of the public media present has the same rights to receive information about the issue under discussion, like any other media representatives. In case of urgent need, each member of the media participating in the press conference has the right to assert his rights and demand an exclusive interview with the guest of the TV program.
