Bobby Singer - the character of the television series "Supernatural", performed by Jim Beaver

A battered shirt in a cage, an old baseball cap with a visor, a small but neat little beard and an anxious look of attentive eyes. So it looks like the hero of the cult series "Supernatural" Bobby Singer (actor James "Jim" Norman Beaver). For spectators, he became so fond of it that, despite his death in Season 7, this character continues to appear on the series to this day.

History of the hero before he met Sam and Dean

Born Robert Stephen Singer in 1950 in the family of his parents, not everything was smooth: his father liked to drink and beat his wife and son.

Once, trying to protect himself from the beating of a drunken parent, young Bobby killed him. When he grew up and created his own family, he did not want to have his children, afraid to repeat the fate of his father.

Singer was very fond of his wife, but when the demon moved into him, defending himself, shot him. However, the shot killed the spouse, but not the demon in her body. From the death of Bobby was rescued by a nearby hunter Rufus Turner. He helped deal with the demon and taught the inconsolable widower how to hunt for supernatural beings.

For a long time Bobby and Rufus hunted together, but because of the death of their beloved Turner, their paths diverged. Despite this, they never refused to help each other.

Later, the wife returned in the form of a reasonable zombie, remembering the past and aware of its essence.

For a short time, Bobby Singer lived with her, as before, but before the fifth day was forced to kill, so she did not turn into a normal zombie.

With John Winchester (father of Sam and Dean), Bobby met when both were already experienced hunters. For a while they communicated, but later quarreled for an unknown reason.

During the years of fighting against dishonesty, Bobby Singer became one of the best experts in demonology and collected a sumptuous library of ancient books on this subject. He advised many hunters, helping them cope with monsters, using the acquired knowledge.

The first appearance of Bobby Singer in "Supernatural"

Most likely, the character Bobby decided to introduce into the plot to replace the father of the Winchester brothers, who died at the beginning of the second season. However, so that it does not look clumsy, the hero of Singer appeared a little before the sad event - at the end of the first season.

In which series does Bobby Singer first appear? In the 22nd episode "The Devil's Trap". To find his father, Sam and Dean entice the stolen demon Meg into a trap. And with the help of Bobby they torture her, and after that they are expelled. It was Singer who later had to settle matters with the police, who found in his house the body of a girl possessed by demon Meg.

Bobby's participation in the fate of the Winchester brothers

After the death of the father of the main characters, Bobby Singer replaces him. He often appears in the series, helping the Winchester brothers.

In the second season, this hero acts as an arbiter during the quarrel between Dean and Sam, helps to drive the demon out of the latter, and also participates in the closing of the gate to the underworld. Very often he gave his charges various ironic advice: "Either do your job with a smile, or do not try!" Or "When you are hunted, the most reasonable thing is to be paranoid!".

In the third season, Bobby begins to appear more often. His main achievement in this period was the acquisition of the ability to make Colt and bullets capable of killing demons.

With the advent of the character Castiel (angel) in the fourth season, the hero Singer began to pay less screen time. Despite this, he shows himself well and several times saves his life to his charges.

Next season, despite all precautions, Bobby takes over the demon and tries to kill the Winchesters with his help. True, the hero manages to seize himself for a few moments and strike himself with an antidemonic knife. He manages to survive after this injury, but almost all the season he spends in a wheelchair. Suffering from this, the character sometimes falls into depression (especially because of the history with the return of the zombie wife) and is constantly looking for a way to heal. Unfortunately, angels who are able to give Singer health, refuse to do so.

In one episode Bobby is forced to leave the soul as a pledge to the demon Crowley, who as a bonus heals the hero's ailment. In the sixth season, this deal delivers a lot of problems to the character, since the demon does not want to play fair. As a result, Singer finds the burial of the body of the demon himself and with the help of blackmail forces him to return the soul. The rest of the time, Bobby helps Dean recover Sam's soul, which remained in a hellish cage with Lucifer.

In the seventh season, because of Castiel, the terrible creatures of leviathans penetrate the human world. It's Bobby who plays one of the key roles in defeating them.

Bobby's death and ghosting

The leader of the leviathans, who settled in the body of Dick Roman, is the culprit of Singer's death: during the forcing of the brothers and Bobby into the enemy's lair this monster shoots the last to the head. However, the hero does not die at once. He gets to the hospital, and his soul, waiting for Bobby Singer to die, travels through his memories. Before his death, the hero comes to himself and tells Sam and Dean about the plans of the leviathans.

After the death of Bobby, the Winchesters burn his body. However, Singer's spirit remains wandering around the world, invisible to others, thanks to the flask of Bobby, which the brothers left to themselves as a souvenir.

Gradually, the hero learns to manage his ghostly powers. In the role of a ghost, he repeatedly saves Sam and Dean. Over time, Bobby's spirit begins to seek revenge on his murderer and on the way to this almost kills Sam. Realizing everything, Singer asks to destroy the flask, thus leaving the world of the living.

The life of Singer in the afterlife

Demon Crowley, remembering all the affairs of Bobby, is seeking that, contrary to his merits, he fell into the underworld. The hero himself explained the injustice with these words: "You seem to do a little evil, then to do a lot of good. But sometimes evil comes out devilishly evil ... And good ... He has to pay an exorbitant price."

Winchesters learn about this much later - during their attempts to close the gates of hell, for which Sam had to perform several tasks. The second of them was the salvation of an innocent soul from the heat. This soul belongs to Bobby.

Once in hell, Singer suffered every minute the most terrible, for him torture: he saw Sam and Dean becoming demons. The younger Winchester still manages to get Bobby out of hell and to bring people to the world through purgatory. Here, he wanted to send the suffer back to Crowley, but the angel Naomi helped to get the Winchester mentor to heaven.

Bobby's involvement in the last few seasons

The character of Singer periodically appears in every season of "Supernatural". In the ninth, he acts as part of the consciousness of Sam, who does not want to live in this world anymore.

In the tenth season in separate series mentioned about this hero. And in the episode "The Man" Bobby helps Sam and Castiel learn from Archangel Metatron how to remove the curse of Cain's label from Dean.

In the eleventh season, this character appears in the memories of the Winchesters.

Jim Beaver is an actor who played Bobby

This role was embodied on the screen by James Norman Beaver, who is more often called Jim.

On the paternal side, he is a distant relative of the famous feminist writer Simone de Beauvoir. Probably, it was from her that Beaver inherited a passion for writing. So, in addition to the acting career, Jim is the author of several books, more than a dozen plays and a number of articles in the journal Films in Review.

After leaving school with friends Jim Beaver went as a volunteer to Vietnam. After returning from there, he decided to become an actor, for which he entered the University of Central Oklahoma.

After graduating from university for several years, Beaver unsuccessfully tried to succeed in the profession. He toured extensively with theatrical companies throughout the country and collected materials for a biographical book about George Reeves.

In the early 80's, Jim managed to get a playwright's place in the Hollywood company Theater West, where he is also working today. Soon the new talented playwright becomes the author of the script for several American serials.

A couple of years went to the mountain and acting career. Playing a veteran of the Vietnam War in the film "Country", Beaver has become quite in demand.

In the early 2000s, Jim Beaver was invited to play in the television series Deadwood. The role of the grim gold prospector, who achieved everything with her work and perseverance, glorified the actor outside the United States.

In subsequent years, Jim played simultaneously in three television series: "Supernatural", "John of Cincinnati" and "Big Love." Despite active work in these projects, continued the career of playwright Beaver, for which he was nominated for several prestigious awards.

In recent years, the actor has appeared in several episodes of popular TV series "Mentalist", "Clairvoyance", "Deceive me", "Dexter" and others.

The personal life of Jim Beaver

For the first time, the actor linked himself to the marriage while studying at the university. His choice was a classmate Debbie Young. Unfortunately, this marriage did not last for six months.

The second time went under Jim's wake with Cecily Adams. Together they lived for 15 years, until in 2004 the spouse died of cancer. From this marriage, the actor has a daughter Madeline Rose Beaver.

Jim Beaver in many respects resembles his hero Bobby Singer. Like his hero, the actor had to fight, he likes to read a lot and lost his beloved woman. Probably, it was this similarity of destinies that helped Jim to play this character perfectly. And although Beaver's biography has a greater achievement than participation in "Supernatural", for the majority he will always be Bobby Singer.
