Bird neck: description and photo

Bird vulture is the largest of all birds of prey in the world. These feathered creatures inhabit almost the entire globe. The only exceptions are Australia and Antarctica. Birds prefer a warm and mild climate. Probably, that's why the lion's share of all vultures lives in Africa.

General description of vultures

The bird's neck does not look very attractive. These creatures have long, completely bare necks, a large hook-shaped beak and a huge goiter. Their wings are wide and large, rounded at the edges. The tail is rigid and has a step structure. The legs of the vultures are rather strong and massive limbs, however, the toes on the legs are weak, and the claws are dull and short.

Table of Ranks

Vultures are usually called all birds that represent the subfamily of the griffon. There is among them a separate group - sipy. Sipy are very similar to American vultures, but ornithologists do not bring these two groups of birds together, not counting them as close relatives. The family of vultures is one of the most diverse and bright among birds. It is represented by the following types:

  • African neck;
  • Griffon vulture;
  • Bengali vulture;
  • Cape neck;
  • Indian sip;
  • Snow vulture;
  • African sip.

It is curious that some other kinds of birds, representing the subfamily of griffovs, and a separate group of American vultures are also classified as vultures. Representatives of the subfamily of vultures include:

  • Eared vultures;
  • Black bars;
  • Gray vultures;
  • Brown vultures;
  • Bald neck;
  • Condors;
  • Ridged vultures.

It should be noted that the latter are the most noble creatures from the whole family of scavengers. As already mentioned above, the so-called sipes represent a special kind. From their congeners, they differ elongated, but weak beak, long goose neck and powerful limbs.

Ornithologists are referred to the family of hyphae and the beloved bird of all Native Americans - condor. The fact is that at one time the Indians were entertained with the help of condors: they caught these birds, tied them to the backs of the bulls and watched the hoof trying to throw off the scavenger who was pecking at his back.

Incidentally, in the South American country of Peru, Urubi, or black vultures, are in great demand among the local population. These birds are very trusting creatures and are not afraid of people at all. Urubi are taken by local laws under the strictest protection, because they are kind of cleaners: they clean streets of cities from excessive dirt.

What do vultures eat?

The neck is a bird of prey, to be exact, a scavenger. On living creatures, these birds attack rarely, preferring to feed on the corpses of animals. Only sometimes during a painful famine vultures dare to attack live animals. However, even in this case, birds try to choose the weakest or sickest beings.

Scientists who observed the behavior of these birds, say that the bird is most likely to attach the corpse to the corpses of mammals, but in some cases does not neglect reptiles, fish, and even its relatives - other birds. Curiously, for example, in India, vultures gladly peck at the corpses of people who were thrown out of custom after death to the Ganges River.

Lifestyle of vultures

A predatory bird of the family of vultures is a rather agile and mobile creature. These creatures walk easily, moving short, but quick steps. Fly vultures are also good, only slowly, but this does not prevent them from climbing huge heights. The scavengers are also not deprived of excellent eyesight: they look out for their prey from rather high altitudes.

Ornithologists scoff at vultures about their wits: they really are deprived of this. Some bluntness inherent in them from nature, awarded them a number of certain negative qualities. Not only that the bird's neck is timid, imprudent, rather quick-tempered and extremely irritable, so also arrogant, and even cowardly! In the appendage to this, it should be noted that the vultures are famous for their inexplicable ferocity.

The lion's share of time, these birds wander around the globe, and then suddenly appear in huge numbers in places where there have not been several months before. It is curious that while some types of vultures can walk around the city streets and village streets, others try to avoid meeting people and do not appear near human settlements.

Vulture's Nest

The bird of the family of vultures is nesting. These creatures settle directly in the nests that they vyut with the onset of spring. Most representatives of this group of birds for nesting choose thick forests or inaccessible rocks. Their nests are original strong constructions reminding nests of any other birds of prey. Masonry usually consists of 1-2 eggs. The chicks hatch absolutely helpless. To an independent life, they adapt only after a few months.
