Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Philippey was born in the city of Florence around 1445 in the family of an artisan for the processing of leather. He was a pupil of the famous painter and Carmelite monk Filippo Lippi. The first independent work of S. Botticelli consider the fresco "St. Sebastian" for the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Young Sandro was a wonderful portraitist. He seemed to feel the inner world of the people he portrayed. Maybe that's why his most beautiful paintings are accurately conveyed by the characters, thoughts and feelings of the people depicted.
