Bar counters on typical Russian kitchens have long become commonplace. After experiencing a boom in popularity about 10 years ago, they were for a time left to oblivion, but today they are returning to the design of ordinary Russian residential apartments, houses and cottages. They are loved for their convenience and compactness, for the original look and for the opportunity to experiment with the design of the entire kitchen.

History of the bar

Initially, the bar is an attribute of a drinking establishment, which received its name from this very stance. Bars in America got stances during the gold rush of the 18th century. A plate made of stone or thick wood separated the bartender from the hall and gave him shelter in case of firefighting or flying to the head of dishes and furniture.

Dashing times in the States passed, and the racks remained in every bar. Later they migrated to the homes of ordinary Americans, then Europeans, and later Russians.

Today, a bar rack can be made of chipboard, wood, plastic, stone and even glass. Dimensions, shapes and even different functional distinguishes them from each other.

Functional

When bar counters only appeared in ordinary American houses, they carried the same task as in the modern bar - during the parties the host played barman as a role, served drinks for guests, bottles with alcohol, glasses and other equipment were also kept there. However, later, in more limited spaces, the racks ceased to be an independent object and became part of the kitchen. It turned out that the size of the bar in the kitchen and its height are very convenient to have a quick breakfast or a snack, to drink coffee on the run. Today, the bar counter in many houses simply ousted the kitchen table - after it they have dinner and dinner, cook and just sit with a newspaper and a cup of tea.

Its narrow edge is attached to the wall, and the long one has an approach from both sides, so that even a small kitchen can accommodate several people. For a small kitchen its own bar counter

The dimensions of any kitchen are suitable for placing a bar counter, however, it is especially popular in small kitchens. They are quite difficult to fit both a full working surface and a dining table, so a narrow and high bar counter is an excellent solution.

To fit it in a small kitchen, it is better to make it one height with the main countertop, that is 85-90 centimeters. When designing the arrangement of the rack, do not forget about the working triangle, that is, the zone between the stove, the refrigerator and the sink. In this triangle there should be no obstacles, so it will be a mistake, for example, to separate the refrigerator from the working area by the rack.

Also an excellent solution for a small kitchen will be a bar counter - a continuation of the window sill. Today you can order a window board from any material and any width. Such a small detail can be very functional. Such a rack will conceal underneath the battery under the window, and to expand the space to it you can pick up suitable height bar stools, which are completely pushed under it.

Small kitchens do not tolerate large cumbersome furniture, so to support the bar, it is better to choose chrome-plated tubes, they will make the rack seem to be soaring and light. Chairs to the rack can be selected from transparent plastic or on thin chrome legs - they are the least visible in space, and therefore give a feeling of greater emptiness and weightlessness.

Bar counters, dimensions: height

The height of the bar is from 86 to 130 centimeters. This difference is explained by the functionality of the rack - the lower it is, the more convenient it is to use it as a dining table. If the rack is flush with the working surface of the kitchen, then its height, usually about 86-90 cm. If the rack performs the function of the partition, its height will be more than a meter.

The standard size of the bar rack width is usually 55 cm, of course, you can and more, but this is the golden mean. But to make a width less than 30 centimeters is not worth it - it will be inconvenient and dysfunctional. The rack width of 30 centimeters is also quite narrow and not suitable for a full serving of lunch or dinner, but for small apartments can be an ideal option.

How to choose bar stools

No bar can do without chairs. The size of special bar stools is an important detail, because if any of the usual tables are suitable, only design is needed, then in the case of a bar counter, size is the first thing.

The height of bar stools is usually 75 or 85 centimeters, but can be found on sale and other sizes, for example in Ikea, which produces bar stools 63 cm high. The main rule when choosing chairs is the difference between a chair and a table top should be at least 30 cm, otherwise the person sitting behind the counter will be uncomfortable. For a landmark: if the size of the kitchen counter is 120 cm, then take chairs at least 85 centimeters, and if the stand is lower, then a 75-centimeter chair is enough.

Bar stools come with or without backboards, on four legs or on one, rotating and stationary. Chairs with a high backrest and footboard are most comfortable - they can sit for a long time without feeling that you are hanging on an uncomfortable perch. But the stools are less convenient, but they save space - they can easily be pushed under the counter.
