Automatic "Uzi" - advantages and disadvantages

Machine "Uzi" got its name in honor of its creator Uziel Gal. Gal was born in German Weimar in 1923, then in 1936 he moved to Israel. Since the time when Uziel was fourteen years old, he worked in the metalwork shop "Yagura", where he was engaged in the repair of tractors and agricultural equipment. In addition, he restored captured weapons for self-defense units, keeping it in secret from the British. And already in those days Uziel Gal started work on a submachine gun of his own design. In 1948, as a cadet officer school, Uziel sends an application for the invention of a prototype. Already in half a year, Gal is sent to the Division of Small Arms of the Army of Liberation of Israel, where his chief is the weapons designer, Heim Kara. Already at the end of 1949, a special commission was set up to investigate the possibility of implementing the idea of producing an Uzi machine gun, while Uziel Gal himself was assigned his own workshop and two workers to help.
On diagnostic tests the machine "Uzi", created by the inventor, competed with the pistol-machine gun of Kara. Both of these PPs had a "circuit with a run-out", which was at that time new in the creation and design of weapons.

The Kara submachine gun has passed all the basic tests, in principle, normal, but compared to the "Uzi" showed two serious minuses. The first drawback was the high cost of production, which did not contribute to its wide application, and the second was the low reliability of the mechanism - in the desert and during sandstorms it was too quickly clogged with fine grains of sand and, accordingly, it required a fairly frequent cleaning, which is not always possible when running Active military operations. The automatic pistol "Uzi" did not have such shortcomings.

However, the design of Uziel Gal, on the other hand, passed all the main and most important tests to "excellent". PP was quite simple in design, cheap in its production, and also it was very strong, durable and reliable. To disassemble the "Uzi" can literally "on the knee", since it consists of only five main parts. Also, it was distinguished by a high level of safety thanks to a double fuse.

Parameters of Uzi:

  • Caliber - 9 mm, cartridges of the standard "Parabellum", 9 * 19.
  • The rate of fire is 600 rounds per minute.
  • Weight - 3 kg 600 grams (without the store).
  • Fire mode - single and automatic.
  • The aiming range is 200 m.

However, the machine "Uzi" has its drawbacks:

  • Low accuracy of shooting due to short barrel.
  • A small (25-32 cartridges) store, quickly emptying at this rate of fire.
  • The hand is too close to the arrow.
  • The full-scale model is very heavy.

Pluses:

  • Compactness.
  • Reliability.
  • Safety in its use.
  • Resistance to contamination.
  • Easy disassembly.

In the modern world, there is also a pneumatic automatic machine "Uzi". Such an automaton, as a rule, is most often used in shooting ranges and airsoft competitions. The classic "Uzi" automaton has been removed from production, only mini- and microversion are produced.
