Origin of the breed

The Australian Terrier came from English thoroughbred breeds and was first introduced in 1899 at an exhibition in Sydney. The ancestors of this breed (for example, the Yorkshire Terrier) are very similar to their current descendants. The breed was bred specially for catching rodents and hunting for hares.

The club of Australian terriers and the first standard of this breed were created in 1921. The Australian Terrier was officially registered in the dog breeding club in 1936. The last breed standard was approved in 1988 and is valid today.

Main characteristics of the breed

Small fluffy dogs with a fairly powerful skeleton, a stretched physique. They have erect, forward-facing ears and a docked tail. Color from blue with tan to sand-red color.

Australian silky terrier is endowed with a tough to the touch wool cover with a soft collar and silk chub. Movement in this breed is energetic, light and sweeping. The expression of the eyes of this dog is quite lively and intelligent.

The Australian terrier achieves insignificant growth. His height at the withers is a maximum of 35.5 cm. The length from the shoulder joints to the base of the seat is 4 cm longer than the height at the withers.
