Arkharov - who is this? Where did the Arkhars come from?

Obsolete, popular a couple of hundred years ago, the words still did not finally come out of the lexicon of modern man. Quite often you can hear how someone is called "arharovets". Who is it? What this word means, not everyone knows. Often so are called naughty and dissolute people, ruffians and brawlers. But is it really so?

Today we will try to understand who are the Arkhars and where did they come from? Are they gangsters "on the high road" or very positive citizens? There are several opinions on this matter, and we will deal with them.

Empty speculation

So, who is this Arkharov? There are several "empty" versions, as scientists call them. Some people believe that this word came from the name of the breed of mountain goats and sheep. But historians refute this theory, saying that poor mountain arhars have nothing to do with recklessness and mischief of people.

There is one more opinion as to what the word "arharovets" means. They say that people who live in the city of Arkharovo are called that way. But in fact, there is no such city on the Russian map. There is only a village with a similar name - Arkhara, which is in the Amur Region, but it has nothing in common with the Arkharovs. And the inhabitants there call the Arkharinites, but not the Arkharans.

History of the word

So all the same, what does this word mean? Arkharov, according to historians, appeared during the reign of Catherine II. It was at that time that Nikolai Arkharov lived in the world.

Arkharov's Childhood

Not so often happened in those days an amazing story of the ascent, as they say, from the mud to the princes. Nikolai Petrovich, who was born in 1742, lived among the household rabble. I spent a lot of time among hooligans, I fought well and could speak "the hair dryer". Without any special military education, only thanks to physical data and oratory skills, he rose to the rank of General Infantry. Although he began as an ordinary soldier of fifteen years in the Life Guards of the Preobrazhensky Regiment.

Historians argue that it was he who helped the queen to ascend the throne and suppress many riots. After suppressing the "plague" rebellion in the capital, he was appointed to the position of Chief Policeman. But where did the word that we are talking about today come from, and who were called the Arkhars?

Creating a "team"

After the appointment, Nikolai Petrovich gathered around him many friends and like-minded people. Most of them, as history says, were of the same origin as he himself. Plus, the team of the chief policeman had a lot of criminals. Arkharov's team engaged in traditional disclosure of thefts and criminal offenses. However, the methods that were used in the work were not traditional to call it. A huge network of whistle-blowers and shadow assistants helped to uncover cases practically on the day of the crime.

The head of the Russian state often resorted to the help of Arkharov and his team when theft and robbery happened in the palace. Everybody knew that the case would certainly be solved if the team of the chief policeman was involved. The whole team was called "arharovtsy." That is, the Arkharovsky - who is this? This is a single member of the gang-team of Nikolai Petrovich. It was rumored that he was capable simply of emotion on the face of the suspect person to determine whether the person was guilty of the crime or not.

It was noted that, despite the steep nature and peculiar methods of conducting their affairs, Arkharov was a very executive man. Therefore, we can say that the Arkharov is not just a serious person with an unconventional approach to solving problems, but a person who is responsible and thorough.

Place in history

Experts argue that Arkharov has done a lot of useful for the state of those times, not only virtually eradicating crime in the capital and beyond, but also preventing the stolen state treasury. In those days, as historians tell, even the street lights were lit again, although before the appointment of Nikolai Petrovich, the governor did not happen because of bureaucratic theft. In letters written to him by the empress, one feels respect and trust. Historians say that this attitude to the subordinates of Catherine was quite a rare phenomenon.

The common noun

Arkharovtsy was called the best in search. Their fame spread in those days far beyond the Russian Empire. Even the chief police officer in France sent letters with enthusiastic reviews about the work of Arkharov's team. It was then that the word became a household word and did not descend from the languages of citizens.

But there is a downside to the medal (according to experts), which contributed to the memorization of the word "arharovets". Who is it? Who was the man who was called that, for the population of the country? If the first half of the people practically idolized the search, headed by Nikolai Petrovich, then the second was simply afraid and did not welcome the methods by which cases were revealed. The regiment entrusted to him behaved quite rudely and unbridled. Measures to restore order were fairly harsh and severe.

Hence we can say that the word can also mean a rude, snobbish and purposeful person. Man, by any means, even resorting to cruelty, going to his goal.

Such a contradictory memory has been preserved about this man, his work and his team. Despite the fact that Pavel the First entered the throne, exiled him to the regiment, the glory of this man remained alive until now. And the common word "arharovets" speaks volumes.
