Aquatic newts. Description and content of amphibians

Tritons can decorate any aquarium. With proper and good care, they can live up to 30 years.

Aquatic newts . general description

At home, there are three types of these amphibians:

- An ordinary newt grows to a length of 8-13 centimeters. His color is very interesting: olive-brown back and yellowish abdomen in a large yellow speck. On the head, ordinary aquarium newts have dark longitudinal lines. During the mating season, the color of the female changes, the color becomes brighter, contrastier and more saturated. A male scallop grows from the head to the tip of the tail.

- Crested newt. This is a larger amphibian, growing to 18 centimeters. Color is black or black and brown, on the orange belly are innumerable spots. Triton of this species also has a crest, but it is slightly shorter, as it ends already at the base of the tail. As a protection against enemies, aquatic newts of this species use a poisonous substance that gives out skin glands. Their content requires caution.

- The thorny newt is the largest of domestic amphibians, it can grow up to thirty centimeters in length. Its name was due to the edges of the ribs sticking out on each side, which are hidden in the hillocks at rest. It releases outwards when it feels danger, and causes considerable harm to the enemy. The amphibian is colored dark green, the abdomen is pale yellow. On the whole body there are black specks.

Tritons aquarium are very slow, they can also stay in one place for a long time, fixing themselves on the walls of the aquarium or plants.

Periodically, the amphibian molts. Usually she rubs her head against the stones and after the skin breaks, pulls it down and immediately eats.

Sexual maturation aquarium newts reach to 2.5-3 years. The amphibian lays eggs and carefully guards, therefore during this period it is better not to disturb her again. Larvae appear after three to four weeks.

Aquatic newts. Content

In care they are extremely unpretentious. However, special attention should be given to the water temperature. It should be from 16 to 22 degrees. In the warm season, the water will have to be cooled if necessary. To do this, you can put an ice bottle in the aquarium.

Tritons live mostly in water, but sometimes they come out on land. Therefore, in an aquarium it is worthwhile to build something like an islet, but a small dam would do, but it will have to be anchored.

As a primer, gravel or sand is used. Plants can be either alive or artificial. Their amphibians usually do not touch, but during breeding they wrap caviar in them. Choosing scenery for an aquarium, it is necessary to avoid sharp corners, so that newts will not get injured.

The basic diet consists of live food. These can be earthworms, shrimp, small fish, tadpoles, slugs, flies and larvae. Also, aquarium newts will not give up small pieces of meat, liver or kidneys. Once a month, it is recommended to give vitamins.

Young newts are fed every day, adults every other day, every 3-4 weeks, it is necessary to arrange unloading days in the length of 2 to 4 days.

Amphibia can contain one or several individuals at once. But neighborhoods with fish or other aquatic inhabitants (with the exception of snails) should be avoided. They can not only injure newts, but also infect them with their illnesses.
