The history of Ukrainian civil aviation is inextricably linked with the airport "Kharkov", located in the city of the same name. History

As already mentioned, the airport started its work in Kharkov in 1923. With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, additional concrete runways were built here. The very same airfield was actively used by Soviet military aircraft. However, during the military operations the territory of the air harbor was repeatedly subjected to massive bombing, as a result of which both the take-off field and all the buildings were almost completely destroyed.

The construction of the new airport began in 1951 on a standard project. It is interesting that according to the same project, air harbors were erected in other cities - Lviv and Yekaterinburg. The newly constructed Kharkov air harbor began its work in 1954.

Beginning in 2008, the entire airport complex (with the exception of the runway, which is a strategic state object) is rented from New Systems AM. With the help of Austrian and German specialists, a project was developed for a large-scale reconstruction of the air harbor, which was immediately launched. As a result, in August 2010, a new passenger terminal opened, the capacity of which is 650 people per hour. The old airport building was also reconstructed, which was transformed into a terminal serving VIP passengers. In 2011, a new runway was put into operation, the length of which was two and a half thousand meters. Thanks to her, the airport "Kharkiv" was able to take large airliners, designed for uninterrupted flights for medium distances. In August 2013, the air harbor set a special record, landing on its AN-124 airfield "Ruslan", which has the largest take-off weight among all the aircraft that ever landed in Kharkov.

The air harbor is located within the city limits, just 13 kilometers from its center (in the south-west direction). You can get from the airport to the center of Kharkov by bus, trolley or taxi. A taxi ride, depending on the address you need, will cost 50-120 hryvnia (or 200-500 rubles).

The main one consists of two parts and carries out the reception and dispatch of passengers both on domestic and international routes. Also on the territory of the air harbor there is a reverse terminal and a hangar intended for private aircraft.

Waiting for the departure of its aircraft to passengers, the Kharkov airport offers a variety of services. Here there are banking branches, ATMs and currency exchange points where you can make the necessary payments, as well as withdraw or change money for foreign currency. If you travel with a small child (up to seven years), you can use the room of the mother and child. In case you need to leave your luggage for a while, you can do it in the airport storage room located in the left wing of Terminal A and working around the clock. On the territory of the air harbor there is also a medical point, where you can go in case of a malaise.

Passengers on the territory of the airport are provided with wireless Internet access.
