Administrative division of Italy: features, a brief description of the main regions

Italy - one of the leading European powers to date. The state of the whole European Union largely depends on its economic condition and political stability. Republic

The Italian land is legally divided into twenty regions. The basis for this distinction is the Constitution of the country, adopted on December 11, 1947 (art. 116). In each of the regions there is a parliament - the junta, which has the right to resolve issues related to local self-government. Also, the regions of the country are divided into provinces (the exception is the area called Valle d'Aosta). In turn, the administrative-territorial division of Italy provides for the division of provinces into communes, which are extremely diverse in their size and population. In particular, the largest commune is Rome, the smallest by area - Fiera di Primiero, and by the number of people living - Pedezina.

Valle d'Aosta is an area located in the north-western part of the country. His autonomous status was in 1945. Historically, the region was the territory of the Celts, later conquered by the Romans.
