The picture "Academy of Vampires" (the actors of which will be listed below) is a film version of the first of six very popular vampire novels by author Rachel Mead, written on behalf of a certain seventeen-year-old girl Rosa Hazavei, clearly aspired to displace "Twilight" from the top position in the audience's tabloids. However, according to a strict assessment of film critics, it became only a romantic steep film version of "A Very Scary Movie". Such a verdict allowed us to take a few carelessly filmed scenes in which one of the characters behaves like a cretin, and the main characters communicate with each other philosophical pearls akin to statuses from social networks.

Director, his brother and their creation

The actors of the Academy of Vampires were called upon to realize the idea of the creative duet of the creators (brothers in combination) - Daniel and Mark Waters, especially since the popularity of the literary source predicted the cashiness and the demand for this project. The brothers had to think in three directions at once: shooting successful adaptation, decent cinema and creating a unique world with its own laws, style and rules. It is not always easy to begin screening a series of books, and it seems that the Waters with this task did not succeed very successfully, although the actors of the Vampire Academy are prettier than the Twilight ones, and the budget was more decent.

Who is told to tweet - do not purr

Mark Waters, director of the bands "Mean Girls", "Spiderwick Chronicles", "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and "Peppers of Mr. Popper", this time turned out to be a rather weak (genre equivalent) film. This is, rather, a harsh action, turned completely inside out. The fact is that Mark Waters used to specialize in the production of comedies, so the pictures (horror, fantasy, thriller, comedy, detective) are clearly visible and the comedy is clearly in the lead. For example, male actors of the "Vampire Academy" in the film seem to be present for furniture or are diligently playing the role of the boyfriends of the main characters. But in the cycle of the literary original it is full of dramatic and tragic events that are simply unrealistic to turn into a comedy, and even to see them in this perspective absolutely do not want. It's a shame that the artistic merits of the original text, the non-standard logic of the narrative and even more common sense retreated to the periphery.

The main heroine, the real vampire princess Vasilisa Dragomir (performed by Lucy Fry) returns to the alma mater almost immediately after the terrible car accident in which her whole family died. She is accompanied everywhere by a faithful bodyguard-the same age as Rosa (actress Zoe Deutsch), she is half-vampire.

In the academy, vampires (moroev) are taught to command elements, and half-bloods (dampers) - all sorts of combat wisdoms in order to protect their wards. And there is something to protect, because the evil Strigoi, the completely wild vampires, ruthless and deadly, are just waiting for a convenient moment to deal with the inhabitants of the academy. In addition, the classmates of the princess in every way scoff at the newcomer. But Vasilisa soon gets tired of all the meanness and slander, she applies her ability to influence others and becomes all respected, the most popular vampire in the academy. It should be noted that some actors of the Vampire Academy, like their heroes, have Russian names.

Intestine plot

But while the main character was solving her amorous and ambitious questions, she built up a reputation among students, an intracaste conspiracy was brewing in the academy. The girl's vicissitudes distanced Vasilisa from Rosa, who spends most of her time training under the strict supervision of an experienced bodyguard-instructor Dmitry Belikov (actor Daniil Kozlovsky). At this time, Queen Tatyana herself (actress Joel Richardson) fears the growing popularity of Vasilisa, as the girl in the future can claim her throne and power. The rector of the alma mater Kirov (actress Olga Kurylenko) is corrupt and plays on the side of evil. In all such a hostile environment, the main heroines have a single influential friend - Viktor Dashkov (actor Gabriel Byrne), who does not mind being in touch with his sweet daughter Natasha (actress Sarah Hayland). However, in the picture there are not all recognized Hollywood stars who, perhaps, would overload the cinema and pull the blanket over themselves. Therefore, everything that happens on the screen is perceived easily, it is learned cheerfully, it does not look pretentious. And the acting actors of the film "The Academy of Vampires" look no worse than the pathos of cinematography.

A little bit of tar

If we consider the visual part of the picture, it should be noted the apparent efforts of the creators. Gloomy and gothic appeared before the audience academy of vampires. Actors are young, attractive, their images are stylish, the camera is frisky and curious, and there are stimulating adrenaline ekshen-episodes. But all the achievements and endeavors sink in an epic confusion, in which the director collects all the patterns of teenage films about magicians, vampires, etc. Heroes kiss, immediately they drink blood, then they learn aikido and the magic of the elements. There is also telepathy, and a ritual transition to the side of evil, and preparation for the graduation ball, and conspiracy. And behind all this bacchanalia stealthly watch the secretive bloodthirsty Strigoi. Probably, they will be allowed to show great activity in the sequel "Academy of Vampires 2". Actors in the next series, at least, the performers of the main roles, most likely, will remain the same.

Political correctness and self-irony

The film "The Academy of Vampires", whose actors do not cause any special complaints, can not be reliably attributed to the outstanding film masterpieces. Although the picture has successful shots, intricate and unpredictable plot twists, in general, the tape is called all mediocre film critics. But most of the merits of this movie are the accentuated political correctness: vampires feed on blood of volunteers in specialized clinics, for which they are generously thanked by cash and necessarily erase their memory. By the way, such volunteers include a writer, an author of super popular people in the world of novels about vampires. That's how self-irony!
