Acrylic paints for decoupage: how to save on hobbies

For such a technique for decorating surfaces, like decoupage, a fairly long list of necessary materials, tools and devices is required. They are abundantly offered by many specialized stores, but it is worth looking at the prices and comparing them with the level of their own income, as the burning desire to design a new product gives way to disappointment. There is quite a reasonable question: is it worth the hobby (the result of which may not be a masterpiece, how lucky) such costs?

Fortunately, there are several methods tested by experienced craftsmen, which will help both to save money and to work creatively.

Acrylic paints for decoupage: we save on the main

When decorating objects in the "decoupage" technique, the largest amount of money has to be spent on the product itself (if it is a wooden blank, furniture or a bottle with alcohol), and also for the purchase of paints.

Acrylic white paint for decoupage becomes the main expense item, as it is used for priming and forming a background. In this case, it should be borne in mind that the paint is usually applied in several layers, so the costs increase many times.

Shops offer acrylic paints for decoupage of various manufacturers (most often French). Of course, they are very high-quality, but extremely expensive. Buy a tube of 200 ml - an inadmissible luxury for thrifty masters.

As an alternative, it is worth looking into the nearest building store, and preferably in a hypermarket (there is more choice). Here you need to go to the paint department and choose a suitable color, volume and price for the bank.

What kind of paint should I buy?

Acrylic paints for decoupage can be successfully replaced with any paint for interior work. Such mixtures are preferable to paints for outdoor work, since they quickly dry and do not give a terrible smell.

Acrylic building paint for decoupage is sold in banks of different volumes: from 350 grams to several kilograms. If it is a white paint mixture, you can safely buy a large capacity, because this is the main material and it will be spent very quickly. This method is used by those who organize the master classes for decoupage.

A good way to save money is to acquire one common large can for several skilled workers. It can be immediately divided, casting into other containers with hermetic lids, or to take turns.

How to save on color paints

As a rule, only white color is not limited, because you have to draw something, tint, or even draw fragments of the pattern yourself. Colored acrylic paints for decoupage are needed in large quantities. At least, you need a minimum base of 6-10 basic colors, which can then be mixed.

Of course, they are also easier and cheaper to buy in a construction shop. The purchase of a large bank is justified if a large-scale thing is planned. In other cases, you can choose a coloring pigment, it can perfectly replace acrylic paints for decoupage.

How to apply the pigment correctly

You should know that this color mixture is used in combination with white acrylic paint. In this case, the amount of pigment in the solution should not exceed 10%, as the texture of the paint will change: it will become not so thick, it will go badly to form a divorce, and air bubbles may also appear.

If you need saturated colors, then it is better to use acrylic paints for decoupage. But the mixture with the pigment will help to get light shades, suitable for the background.

Color acrylic can be searched not only in stores for builders, but also in clerical. Some of them offer a very worthy choice of paints in large containers at an affordable price.

For beginners who do not yet know which paint will be used most often, it is worth paying attention to small sets that include basic shades. When the experiment is completed, you can buy a large paint bucket of your favorite color.

Building hypermarkets can save you not only on paint, but also on brushes, varnishes, enamels and sponges (this tool can be built by holding a piece of sponge for washing in clothes pegs).

The beauty of buying varnish in such departments is that there is a very wide selection of different products: matte, glossy, transparent, colored. In addition, a large volume of packaging is extremely pleasing.
