A brief retelling: "Vasily Terkin" by Alexander Tvardovsky

Do you like a short retelling? "Vasily Terkin" is a work of A. Tvardovsky, which we will briefly get acquainted with today. We will try to consider the main points and understand the essence of the work. First, let's get acquainted with the author closer.

about the author

Alexander Tvardovsky is a famous Soviet writer and poet. He was also the editor-in-chief of the magazine Novy Mir. The writer was born in June 1910 in the Smolensk region. Already at the age of 15 he began to write. At first they were short notes in local newspapers. Then his literary path grew wider. Unfortunately, he found the times of collectivization. His relatives were sent into exile, their native farm was burned to the ground. "Vasily Terkin" is a fairly well-known work of the author. He himself called it "a book about a fighter without beginning and without end." The story has become popular with many readers. It differs in masterful style, dynamic plot and simplicity. This makes it pleasant, easy, but compelling to think about.

The beginning of history

"Vasily Terkin," a brief summary of which we will consider, begins with a story about the main character. We get acquainted with a guy who is in an infantry company. The author says that this is the second war for Basil (before that was Finnish). The guy is described for a long time in different colors. It becomes clear that he does not get behind the word in his pocket, likes to eat, and just is a good person. Vasily remembers how he made his way to the front in a detachment of ten comrades. They made their way from the eastern "German" side. On their way they met the village of the commander of the detachment, and together they went to his house. The economic wife fed the soldiers a delicious stew and wished them goodnight. Early in the morning the soldiers left the village, leaving him in captivity to the enemy. Throughout Terkin's journey, the thought of returning and thanking a simple Russian woman did not leave him.

Crossing

Vasily Terkin is the main character of the story, so the whole plot will be inextricably linked with him. Meanwhile, the guys passed the river. Suddenly, there was an enemy fire. Some of the soldiers managed to move to the other shore, and the second remained to wait for dawn. And it was in the winter, the river was almost frozen. Late at night, Vasily comes ashore and says that they can provide the ferry. Between the detachments there is a connection, preparation is being made for the crossing. Act quickly in order to be in time before dawn. A fire is heard, and Terkin occupies an enemy "cellar", from which he destroys a German soldier. Without understanding anything, the Allies begin bombing Basil. Everything ends sadly, it is picked up by tankmen and sent to the medical battalion.

"Vasily Terkin", head of "Harmon"

In the hospital he undergoes long-term treatment, but this does not upset him. Vasily Terkin is the main character with humor. When he regains consciousness, he starts joking that he does not mind getting a medal for his affairs and taking a good walk in the neighboring village. Recovering finally, he decides to catch up with his. He agrees to give a ride guys, but on the road is formed stagnation of transport. Winter, fierce cold ... What should I entertain myself? It turns out that the tankmen have an accordion that belonged to the deceased commander. It's something they give to Vasily, who draws on a sad melody. Then follows a cheerful motive - and the whole composition turns out to be dancing. After talking, the tankmen remember the wounded guy, and it turns out that this was Terkin. It ends with the fact that the commander's accordion is given to him as gratitude.

Order

What is the continuation of our brief retelling? Vasily Terkin finds an old hut where he meets a woman and grandfather. They treat him, he repairs various objects for them and leaves. One of the fighters loses his pouch, and Terkin gives him his, saying that in the war you can lose a lot. He also recalls that in the hospital the nurse gave him her hat, which he still cherishes with tenderness. There is a battle in which Vasily bravely fights and defeats the enemy. Then he goes to the reconnaissance and returns with a prisoner who owns important information. A.T. Tvardovsky ("Vasily Terkin") very skillfully conveyed the atmosphere of spring, the renewal of nature, the first warm days against the backdrop of war, death and despair. In the spring, Terkin successfully knocks down the plane, for which he receives the order. He is very happy with his merit and remembers the boy from the hospital, who at the young age was already a hero. He told Basil that he was a "hero from Tambov." This prompted the main character to think about his poor Smolensk region.

The soldier is given leave, but since his village is in captivity, he remains at the front. Later, there is a battle for the village of Borki, from which, unfortunately, only ashes remain. Soon it is sent to rest there, where you can eat 5 times a day and sleep a lot. A day later he catches a ride and returns to the company, unable to stand idle.

the end

Slowly, our short retelling moves towards the finale. Vasily Terkin with a platoon goes to liberate the village under the command of a conceited lieutenant, who quickly perishes. His place is occupied by our hero. The soldiers free the village, but Basil gets seriously wounded. He does not surrender to death, and the guys from the funeral brigade find him.

Returning after the treatment, Vasily discovers that everything has changed in the company: even a new Ivan Terkin has appeared. Meanwhile, through the village with his old men, the front line was laid, so the grandfather and the woman moved into the cellar. Vasily visits them, and learns that the Germans took away the clock. He promises to bring new ones from Berlin. What then is preparing for us a brief retelling? Vasily Terkin learns that his village was taken by the allies, so it becomes calmer at heart. At the same grandmother will be taken prisoner, and Vasily promotes her release. Soon she is at home.

"Vasily Terkin," which we briefly reviewed, ends with a scene in a German bath. Several soldiers are hovering and talking. Among them there is one that stands out: it has many scars, there are many medals, and for a word in his pocket he does not climb. Others say about him: "It's like Terkin."

This concludes our consideration of the story of AT Tvardovsky. It should be understood that although the book has one storyline, it is still based on the selected episodes. Reading the whole story is a real treat everyone should try. Read Twardowski - it's useful!
