Winning Euro-2006 among young people in Luxembourg

Young players are more likely to cheer fans than their older brothers in the shop. Let's pay attention to one of such glorious moments. In 2006, in the youth football calendar, three European championships were planned at once among teams in different age categories. There are usually three. Each of them determines the maximum age of participants who are allowed to compete. These categories are called U-17, U-19, U-21. Consider the European Championship among the youngest footballers, held in Luxembourg.

Selection of participants in the final part

In the final part of the championship, as usual, there are eight teams. One place among this number goes to the team that represents the host country of the championship. If we talk about the Euro-2006 in football among the youth U-17, then it was the team of Luxembourg. The remaining seven participants of the finals had to pass a two-stage selection system. The first stage was called the qualification round, and on it from a huge number of participants was selected a cohort of teams, which in the future was to continue the struggle for an exit in the final part of the championship. The second round, which just decided the issue of entering the Euro-2006, was called elite. As a result, determined the cherished seven participants who joined the team-owner - the Luxembourg national team.

Draw for the final part of the tournament

All eight teams that came out to the final were split into two groups. Each of the teams of this group had to play with all participants of the finals. As a result, the teams will hold three matches and the two best of each group will go to the play-off stage of Euro-2006. Let's look at how the lot was divided into groups.

Group A was led by a team from Luxembourg. It was joined by the Spaniards, who, as usual, are considered favorites at any of the tournaments. The same group includes young men from Russia. Also, they are joined by a fairly strong and very uncompromising team of Hungary.

Group B was led by the team of Germany. It gets very strong teams from Belgium and the Czech Republic. And finally, the fourth team in the group was the unified team of Serbia and Montenegro. Any of the eight was able to surprise. Let's see how the group tournament has developed in both subgroups.

Group Tournament

The winner of group A was predicted to be the Spanish team. She won all three matches, scoring twelve goals and conceding only one. And it was a goal from the Luxembourg national team after the Spaniards led with a break seven goals. The Russian team also failed to cope with the team from Spain and missed three goals from them. But since she won two other matches, she went to the stage of the playoffs.

A little more intrigue was in group B. Although the German national team could score eight goals at the opponents' gate, while not missing a single one, it was able to reach the playoffs only by the difference of the goals scored and conceded, because it played an inconclusive draw with the Czech team. And the Czech youth, having scored the same number of points with the Germans, left second place.

As a result, four teams entered the next round of the competition. From group A - Spain and Russia, and from group B - Germany and Czechia. The teams that took the first places played with the participants, whose lot became the second position.

Playoff

So, these four teams continued the fight for Euro-2006, the final of which was to be held on May 14. The most anticipated was the meeting between the national teams of the Czech Republic and Spain. But serious struggle did not happen. The Czechs, surprisingly, won the dry. In the second semifinal there was a more intense struggle. The Russian team was the first team in the championship to print the gates of the German national team. Thanks to this goal the team of our country was able to reach the final, which finished the Euro-2006 championship.

The next match of our team was like a real thriller. Even in the first minute of the second half, the team came forward, and it seemed, this is the end of the match. But on the third added minute, the Czechs equalized and transferred the match into overtime. But even there our guys come forward, although they do not retain the advantage. The Czechs managed to clarify the winner on a series of post-match penalties, of which our players scored all five, and the opponents missed once. Thus, our youth won the Euro-2006 in Luxembourg.
