Wind Instruments: List, Titles

Virtually all orchestras have brass musical instruments. A list of them will be given in this article. Also here is information about the types of wind instruments and the principle of extracting sound from them.

Wind Instruments

These are pipes that can be made of wood, metal or any other material. They have a different shape and produce different timbre musical sounds, which are extracted through the airflow. The timbre of the "voice" of the wind instrument depends on its size. The larger it is, the more air passes through it, from which the frequency of its oscillation is less, and the sound produced is low.

There are two ways to change the pitch of the sound produced by this type of instrument:

  • Adjustment of air volume by fingers, with the help of link, valves, valves and so on, depending on the type of tool;
  • Increase the force of blowing the air column into the pipe.

The sound depends entirely on the airflow, hence the name - wind instruments. Their list will be given below.

Varieties of wind instruments

There are two main types - copper and wood. Initially, they were classified in this way, depending on the material from which they were made. Now the type of instrument depends more on the way in which the sound is extracted from it. For example, a flute is considered a wooden wind instrument. At the same time, it can be made of wood, metal or glass. Saxophone is always produced only by metal, but belongs to the class of woodwinds. Copper tools can be made of various metals: copper, silver, brass and so on. There is a special type - keyboard wind instruments. The list of them is not so great. These include harmonium, organ, accordion, melodic, bayan. The air in them comes through special furs.

What tools are related to wind instruments?

We list the wind instruments. Their list is as follows:

  • trumpet;
  • clarinet;
  • trombone;
  • accordion;
  • flute;
  • saxophone;
  • organ;
  • Zurna;
  • oboe;
  • harmonium;
  • Balaban;
  • accordion;
  • French horn;
  • bassoon;
  • Tuba;
  • bagpipes;
  • Sheng;
  • Duduk;
  • Labial accordion;
  • Macedonian guide;
  • Shakuhachi;
  • ocarina;
  • Serpent;
  • horn;
  • helicon;
  • Didgeridoo;
  • Kurai;
  • Trembita.

You can name some other similar tools.

Brass brass

Brass copper musical instruments, as already mentioned above, are made of various metals, although in the Middle Ages there were also those made from wood. The sound from them is extracted by strengthening or weakening the blown air, and also by changing the position of the lips of the musician. Initially, the brass winds reproduced only the natural scale. In the 30 years of the 19th century, they were replaced with gates. This allowed such instruments to reproduce the chromatic scale. The trombone for these purposes is a retractable wedge.

Copper-wind instruments (list):

  • trumpet;
  • trombone;
  • French horn;
  • Tuba;
  • Serpent;
  • helicon.

Woodwinds

Musical instruments of this type were originally made exclusively from wood. To date, this material is practically not used for their production. The name reflects the principle of sound extraction - inside the tube is a wooden cane. These musical instruments are provided with holes on the body, located at a strictly defined distance from each other. The musician opens and closes his fingers while playing with his fingers. Thanks to this, a certain sound is obtained. By this principle, woodwinds sound. The names (list) included in this group are as follows:

  • clarinet;
  • Zurna;
  • oboe;
  • Balaban;
  • flute;
  • bassoon.

Tongue Musical Instruments

There is another kind of wind - reed. They sound thanks to a flexible vibrating plate (tab), located inside. The sound is extracted by exposure to air, or by pulling and tearing. On this basis, you can create a separate list of tools. Spiritual reed divides into several types. They are classified by the way they extract sound. It depends on the type of the tongue, which can be metallic (for example, as in the tubes of the organ), freely slipping (as in the harp and harmonics), or beating, or reed, as in cane wooden woodwinds.

List of tools of this type:

  • harmonica;
  • Vargan;
  • clarinet;
  • accordion;
  • Bau;
  • bassoon;
  • saxophone;
  • Calimb;
  • harmonic;
  • oboe;
  • Hulls.

To wind instruments with a free rolling tongue are: bayan, harmonica, accordion. In them, air is injected by blowing a musician's mouth, or by furs. The airflow causes the tongues to oscillate and thus the sound is extracted from the instrument. The harp also belongs to this type. But his tongue does not vibrate under the influence of the air column, but with the help of the hands of the musician, through his tearing and pulling. Oboe, bassoon, saxophone and clarinet belong to a different type. In them, the tongue is a beating, and it is called a cane. The musician blows air into the instrument. As a result, the tongue oscillates and the sound is extracted.

Where to use wind instruments

Wind instruments, a list of which was presented in this article, are used in various orchestras. For example: military, wind, symphonic, variety, jazz. And also occasionally they can act as part of a chamber ensemble. Very rarely they are soloing.

Flute

This is a woodwind instrument. A list of pipes belonging to this type was given above.

The flute is one of the oldest musical instruments. It does not use a tongue, as in other woodwinds. Here, the air is dissected against the edge of the instrument itself, and as a result, sound is formed. There are several varieties of flutes.

Syringa is a single-barreled or multi-barbed instrument of Ancient Greece. Its name comes from the name of the bird's vocal organ. Multi-barrel siring later became known as Pan's flute. On this instrument in ancient times, peasants and shepherds played. In ancient Rome, syringa accompanied performances on stage.

Recorder - a wooden instrument belonging to the whistle family. To her close sopilka, pipe and whistle. Its difference from other woodwinds is that on its back side there is an octave valve, that is, a hole for closing with a finger, on which the height of the remaining sounds depends. They are extracted by blowing air and closing the musician's fingers with 7 holes located on the front side. This kind of flute was the most popular between the 16th and 18th centuries. Its timbre is soft, melodious, warm, but its capabilities are limited. In many of his works, such great composers as Antonia Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel and others used the recorder. The sound of this instrument is weak, and gradually its popularity has decreased. It happened after the transverse flute appeared , which today is the most used one. In our time, the recorder is used mainly as a teaching tool. Beginners flutist master it first, only then go to the longitudinal.

Flute-Piccolo is a kind of transverse. She has the highest of all wind instruments timbre. Its sound is whistling and piercing. Piccolo is half the length of an ordinary transverse flute. Its range is from "re" to "to" the fifth.

Other kinds of flutes: transverse, panfleet, di, Irish, ken, flute, pizhatka, whistle, okarina.

Trombone

This is a brass instrument (the list of the members of this family was presented in this article above). The word "trombone" is translated from Italian as a "big trumpet". There is from the 15th century. From other instruments of this group the trombone differs in that it has a link-tube, by means of which the musician extracts sounds, changing the volume of airflow inside the instrument. There are several types of trombone: tenor (the most common), bass and alto (less often used), contrabass and soprano (almost not used).

Hulusi

This is a Chinese wind instrument with additional tubes. Another name is bilandao. In total, he has three or four tubes - one main (melodic) and several bourdon (low-sounding). The sound of this instrument is soft, melodic. Most often, the hoolios are used for solo performance, very rarely in the ensemble. Traditionally, this instrument was played by men, explaining to a woman in love.
