In ancient Egypt, in order to get beautiful clothes and bed-clothes, it was customary to bleach cotton. As there were no chemical agents intended for this purpose, then this procedure was carried out simply by laying out the material under the sun's rays. Later in other countries, other methods of bleaching both raw materials and ready-made things were used. Chemicals began to be used for this purpose only at the end of the 19th century. The most effective and inexpensive means in this case was sodium hypochlorite. Compositions intended for bleaching, based on it, are still produced.
