What will the Alexandrovsky Garden recall?

The Alexander Garden is a park that occupies a relatively large territory (about 10 hectares) in the heart of Moscow. Its avenues are decorated with blue fir trees, acacia, lilac, jasmine and magnificent flower beds. Here are the most interesting monuments, to which numerous visitors come. This is facilitated by the exit in the immediate vicinity of the park from the metro station "Alexander Garden".

In the early 20-ies of the XIX century. Alexander I issued a decree on the organization of gardens in the place where the Neglinka River was previously located. The garden was divided according to the project of Osip Bove - akhitector, famous for the reconstruction of the image of Moscow after the tragic events of 1812. The upper, middle and lower gardens began to be called the Kremlin gardens, and from 1856 - the Alexander ones.

Today, the Alexander Garden is an object of memorial significance. Thus, the grotto "Ruins", also called "Italian grotto," indicates the destruction that the capital suffered in 1812. From the outer part on both sides of the park building lined with debris of old buildings in Moscow, destroyed by fire. About the Patriotic War reminds the main entrance to the Alexander Garden - impressive cast-iron gate with decorations in the form of symbols of military triumph.

At the main entrance is Post No. 1 - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A monument dedicated to the memory of fighters who died in bloody battles for Moscow is worthy of honor. On this place were solemnly buried the remains of one of the soldiers, whose feat remained anonymous. A reminder of all those who did not return from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War is the Eternal Flame blazing on the Tomb , delivered in 1967 from the Marsovo Field memorial in Leningrad. Next to the ten granite blocks, on which are inscribed the names of the hero cities, is the land, specially brought from these cities. Here is the stele, opened in 2010 with the participation of the presidents of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus, and dedicated to the military glory of the hero cities.

In the center of the Upper Garden stands an obelisk with the names of revolution figures and theoreticians of socialism. It is interesting that originally this monument, which was opened in 1914 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, was a high tetrahedral column of granite with a double-headed eagle attached to the top. On the obelisk the arms of the Romanovs, their names, the emblems of all provinces included in the Russian Empire were inscribed. However, the monument was not destined to survive in the form in which it was conceived. In 1918, the names of the Romanovs were removed, and the names of outstanding revolutionaries were placed instead. The emblems of the Russian provinces and symbols of monarchical power were also deleted. It is in this way that the Alexander Garden received a renovated obelisk, which, however, has been located since 1967 not at the main entrance, as before, but in another place.

Like many years ago, for Muscovites and guests of the capital, one of the most favorite places for a walk is the Alexander Garden. Moscow is changing in many aspects, but in one it remains unchanged: at all times and times the capital keeps a memory of the glorious, incredibly complex and dramatic history of the country. And the confirmation of this is the carefully preserved places of memorial significance.
