What is the history of the holiday "Day of Accord and Reconciliation"?

The history of the holiday "Day of Accord and Reconciliation" goes back almost a century ago. Until recently, it had a completely different name, reflecting its essence: "The Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution." Since then, times have changed, and the state in which everything began, has long been gone, but this date is still important for several generations of our citizens.

How it all began?

It was in 1917. Russia was going through hard times: the First World War ended recently, which brought many troubles for our citizens, and the political situation in the country left much to be desired. All this led to the fact that in October, on the 25th (according to the previous calendar, in our calculation - on November 7), a revolution called the Great October Revolution took place.

The events of this day have had a major impact on how life has developed in our country. From this date, the history of the holiday "Day of Accord and Reconciliation" begins . After the victory of the revolutionaries, the entire social system in Russia radically changed, and even the country began to be called in a different way - the Soviet Union.

The next day, October 26 (again, according to the pre-revolutionary calendar, nowadays - November 8), 1917, several decrees (on land and peace) and laws, according to which the people should live, were adopted. The working day was 8 hours, and the workers themselves were able to control the production and distribution of food. All peoples living in the territory of the country were equal in rights.

Holiday in the Soviet era

Despite the new name - "Day of Accord and Reconciliation" - the history of the celebration on November 7 began in the Soviet period. Up until 1991, this holiday was called "Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution". It was widely celebrated at the state level and was one of the main "red days of the calendar" in the country.

In all cities of the then Soviet Union on this day off, there were mass festivities and, of course, demonstrations in which all working people and pioneers participated. Politicians and just people occupying important posts from the stands congratulated Soviet citizens on the occasion. In honor of this day, rallies were held, where the working people and the revolution were glorified.

This continued until the collapse of the USSR. In the 1990s, the importance of November 7 was tried to be minimized and erased from the memory of the people, but without success.

New face of the old holiday

In 1996, thanks to a decree signed by Boris Yeltsin, then the president of Russia, the official history of the holiday "Day of Accord and Reconciliation" began. This name was chosen not by chance, but in accordance with the situation in the country at that time.

The fact is that in the 1990s, as well as before the October Revolution, class stratification in society became too significant. Because of this, the people's excitement and intolerance of suddenly impoverished citizens to those who managed to get rich quickly, taking advantage of the situation, became more noticeable.

In order to prevent new tragic events, it was necessary to reconcile among themselves the people divided on the basis of financial prosperity. That is why, without deleting the customary memorable date from the history of Russia, the day of reconciliation and accord began to be spoken on November 7.

Transfer of celebration

Since the 5th year of the 21st century the history of the holiday "Day of Accord and Reconciliation" has been further developed. If until now November 7 was officially considered a holiday holiday, now this rule was canceled by a decree of the government. Instead, the Russian calendar has a new day off - on November 4 (the official name is "Day of National Unity").

In the pre-Soviet era, from October 1649, there was the Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God (in today's calendar - November 4). By this day it was decided to timed a new memorable date, called to unite the people.

For Russian history on November 4 is a very significant date. On this day, in the distant 1612, Moscow was liberated from the Poles' invaders, thanks to the rallying of the people under the leadership of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and merchant Kuzma Minin. At the end of 2004, the new Russian government decided that such a landmark moment could well come to unite the Russians even now.

Congratulations

People of the older generation, called "Soviet hardening", like the youth, will be happy to receive congratulations in prose with the Day of Accord and Reconciliation, because for everyone at this date there will be something of their own, important.

This holiday was another reason to rethink your attitude to the history of Russia, to choose the right direction for yourself or to be sure of the correctness of the chosen path. Let the experience of the past help to avoid making fatal mistakes, to get rid of intolerance.

Do not forget to congratulate you on this great, significant holiday for every Russian, your grandparents, parents and all relatives who were the citizens of the Soviet Union for the most part of their lives. It makes a special sense for them on November 7, because the fire that was kindled many years ago has not died out, and we should not forget about it. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account all the mistakes of the past and not to allow tragedies in the future.
