What is the duty of the godmother?

All Orthodox Christians seek to christen their child. This is done, according to custom, 40 days after the birth of the baby. After the sacrament of baptism, the child has godparents. From this very moment, as many believe, the child is protected by the Almighty. The godfathers have many responsibilities, and especially the mother. It is she who assumes a great responsibility. Therefore, the choice of godparents should be approached responsibly.

So, what is the duty of the godmother? Nowadays, not everyone knows and respects them. Some disappear immediately after the rite of baptism or a few months later, without realizing their importance in the upbringing and life of the child. Some appear only in order to present gifts for the holidays. This, of course, is good. All children like to receive gifts, and this aspect is very pleasant for them. But pampering surprises is not the main responsibility. In addition, the godmother should be next to her godson. It is necessary to constantly communicate with the child, take an interest in his life, support in difficult situations, praise and rejoice in case of victories and achievements. If it happened that life has scattered you far apart - at different ends of the city or even the world, then try not to get lost. Today's technology makes it easy to connect with a person from anywhere in the world: phone, mail, Internet - everything is at your disposal.

One of the main duties of the godmother, of course, is the responsibility for spiritual upbringing. She must introduce the child to Christian morality, to lead to the temple, to talk about God, to teach to pray. When the faith of the cross is sincere, the child will necessarily grow up with faith in the soul. In fact, it is more important than giving a gift to the baby with various gifts.

As it is commonly believed, the godmother is the second mother of the child. She must make festive walks for her godson. This is necessary to change the situation of the baby and so that he looks at some life values with different eyes. In addition, this aspect will allow parents to rest a little and miss their child.

Usually it is possible to rely on the godmother for a difficult moment. If the child falls ill, then she is the most trusted. After all, the responsibility of the godmother includes also caring for the child, especially on days when the baby is unwell.

Of course, the godmother must cherish the secrets of the child entrusted to her, and in any case not disclose them to outsiders. She must treat her godson with love and motherly warmth. To keep the secret secrets of the baby is also the responsibility of the godmother. Do not forget that the child's psychology, like a fine thread, and losing confidence once, to restore it is very difficult, sometimes even unrealistic.

The child should be sure that at any moment he can trust her with her secrets, that in a difficult situation he can count on her help. Of course, these are the most important duties of the godmother.
