What is interesting about the titmouth?

The long-tailed tit is a relatively small bird, characterized by beautiful, slightly rounded wings, as well as a long, as it were, "stepped" tail. Its beak is short enough, slightly inflated and slightly curved. This indicates that the long-tailed tit is a predominantly insectivorous creature. The Latin name is Aegithalos caudatus.

As for the distribution geography, it is extremely large: the species is found in the vicinity of Arkhangelsk, it can be constantly seen in Ukraine. These birds are widespread up to Sakhalin, but are interested in their desire to stay close to the person, since they do not fly into the deep taiga. It should be noted that the long-tailed tit does not occur in Central Asia.

All northern populations are nomadic, while closer to the southern regions are increasingly becoming fully sedentary. The nomadic (depending on the locality) can begin already in September, continuing at times almost until the end of March.

Usually the long-tailed tit prefers to keep in deciduous and mixed forests, it can often be found in urban parks and green plantations. Prefers those arrays, where there is a dense shrub "canopy", in which the youngest of these birds are hiding.

In the main for the blue tits of the species mentioned, gregarious behavior is characteristic, but occasionally they can be seen in pairs. Flicking and jumping from branch to branch, tits all time echo. A fast flight of the Longtail is peculiar: it is low and wavy. Sitting on a tree, birds quickly begin to move along it, climbing into the most inaccessible corners in search of food.

All they find is immediately eaten. In the writings of many authors it is possible to find an assertion that a long-tailed titmouse does not mix with other representatives of its family. This is not true.

It is often possible to see large Sinichi schools, which include this species. It should be noted that long-tailed tits, even in such gatherings, are kept somewhat apart, trying to assemble into small groups according to the species.

The breeding season begins around March. Their nests feathers try to twist on trees standing near the edge of the forest or in a dense undergrowth. In the vast majority of cases they are arranged on deciduous trees. It is very rare to find dwellings of these tits in the floodplain bushes of willows and other shrubs.

Like any bird, the titmouse pays a lot of attention to the construction of its nest. The walls are neatly laid out of a mixture of webs of vegetable fibers, densely covered with scraps of wool, down and dry grass.

Occasionally among the building material there are whole feathers of other birds, impellers from the seeds of trees. Most of the pavement is the fluff and feathers of the mistress herself, laid in a thick and warm pillow.

As already mentioned, according to the nature of its nutrition, it refers to insectivores. Very often eats weevils, bug-turtles and other pests of the forest. Thus, the long-tailed tit, the photo of which is in our article, is an exceptionally useful bird for the forest.

By the way, the ancient Russian name of it - the Apollonian. The hunters believed that it was better not to find birds beautifully, and therefore they picked up such an exquisite name, fully reflecting all its charm.
