What is a laptop battery calibration?

With each generation of laptops, the differences between them and personal computers are increasingly erased. No one surprises with mobile multi-core processors, high-performance graphics cards and high-frequency RAM, but the main difference is the availability of a battery for network-independent work - it is saved.

In the instructions for any laptop, there is a section that describes the rules for the use of batteries. Unfortunately, seldom does anyone read to this point. It is completely in vain, since the definition of "laptop battery calibration" would cease to be something unknown, and the battery life significantly increased. In addition, it is useful to know that the passport characteristics are observed only when operating at a temperature of -15 to +35 Celsius, and long-term storage in a discharged state (retrieval of sown elements) is highly undesirable.

The autonomous power supply system consists of a block of lithium-ion batteries and a control controller. Batteries by the principle of operation are similar to those that are installed in mobile phones (with rare exceptions). The controller is represented by a microcircuit that controls the charging process, and also tells the operating system the state of the batteries. Few people know, but the controller calculates the residual charge, and does not determine with 100% certainty. The value of the residual capacity, at which the laptop can not work, is taken as "0", and the completion of charging - for 100%. All the intermediate results, the ones about which Windows gladly reports "Time Left" and "Battery Charge", the controller receives by average mathematical calculations, that is, very roughly. Calibrating the laptop battery, also called training, is to help the controller accurately determine the limits (0 and 100). Obviously, if values that are not true to reality are taken, the battery will be used irrationally.

The user is able to calibrate the laptop battery, the program can be downloaded from the Internet. The operation of such an application is very simple: in the Windows power settings, the hibernation modes are turned off, as a result, when working on batteries, the laptop can remain on until the charge is sufficient. After turning off the device, the controller will fix the real value of the residual capacity and write it into memory as "0". The laptop battery calibration program can easily be replaced by self-discharge: you must turn off all sleep modes in the power manager and leave the laptop to work on batteries, wait for it to turn off. Of course, when discharging with important data it is better not to work, so as not to lose them.

Calibration of the laptop battery, in addition to discharging, also includes the subsequent full charge. This allows the controller to determine the actual capacity of the battery, saving it as 100%. Leave the battery discharged, as already indicated, it is impossible - this reduces its capacity.

It's that simple. In other words, the calibration of the laptop battery is a cycle of full discharge and charging. Now several features:

- A fully charged power supply must be discharged. The new laptop, although it can work autonomously at once, but the battery in it is partially discharged (due to storage or frequent demonstration in the store). The scheme is as follows: bought - turned on from the mains, charged the battery - set up the power supply - turned on the battery, discharged the battery - turned on the mains power - returned the settings of the power manager;

- Too often not to calibrate - this reduces the resource of the power source. Usually the battery can withstand about 1000 such cycles, so you do not need to calibrate without needing calibration.
