We plant the aquarium with Javan moss

Javanese moss (Vesicularia dubayana) is very common in Indonesia. He is very hardy, handsome and practical: small fishes can escape in his thickets, escaping the persecution of their larger relatives.

It is not surprising that a half of the aquarists in the whole world have planted the aquarium with Javanese moss. It is very suitable even for beginners, since the plant does not necessarily have to root in the ground: it can be tied with a kapron thread to a stone or snag, or even let it go free swimming.

This remarkable plant belongs to the family Hypnaceae. Each fragment of moss consists of small twigs, with a pairwise bilateral arrangement of leaves. The fascination with Javanese moss went also because he is practically indifferent to the parameters of water.

But this does not apply to its purity, because in dirty water a beautiful plant quickly turns into a grubby loofah, an amorphous clump floating around the aquarium. Because of this, it is highly advisable not to cultivate it in water reservoirs containing fish, adoring digging in the ground, picking up mud.

The initial landing is that you need to identify those places where you would like to see lush and beautiful thickets. As we have already noted, it can be attached to the substrate by means of a regular capron thread or a simple line.

But where the Javanese moss on the snag looks better! Note that on a soft and pliable surface, the plant eventually releases thin and fragile roots. So after this, the line can be removed, so that nothing breaks the naturalness of the species.

If the lighting is in order, and there are enough organic substances in the water (without their overabundance!), Even a small twig can very quickly turn into a lush bush.

If you want to completely plant the Javanese moss with an aquarium, just cut it off regularly, planting it around the entire perimeter of the tank. Surprisingly, even a small piece of it that has gone unnoticed during harvesting can grow a new twig.

We have already said that the plant is almost indifferent to the parameters of water, except for its purity. But best of all, it grows in a slightly alkaline medium at a pH of 5.8-8.0 and a temperature of 18-30 0 C. It is very important that the water in the aquarium does not bloom, otherwise you will quickly say goodbye to Javanese moss. With the level of lighting it is better not to overdo it, since moss loves soft, natural light most of all.

Especially "Javanese" is loved by those breeders who prefer to keep viviparous fish species: it gives excellent shelter to the fry, not allowing parents to satisfy their hunger. In addition, the said plant can be successfully used as a spawning substrate for practically all species of aquarium fish.

Unlike synthetic threads, which are also used in this capacity, it not only hides eggs dropped to the bottom, but also filters and purifies water, creating optimal conditions for their growth and development. In addition, the infusoria, which are an indispensable food for fry in the first days of their life, are well-lived.

Thus, Javanese moss (photo is presented to your attention) is an excellent aquarium plant!
