History

Counties

What is Vologda Province famous for? The counties included in its composition were unique. There were 10 of them, the rest of the territory was occupied by 13 cities.

Totem County was formed by 1708 and included 22 parishes. Its area was 23 thousand square meters, lived in it 146 thousand people.

Nikolsky Uyezd was formed in 1780. By 1923 it consisted of 24 townships. It was abolished in 1924.

The Gryazovets district was also established in 1780. The population was much lower - 95 thousand people. In this district there was only one large city - Gryazovetsk. Famous for the fact that it produced oil.

The Vologda district consisted of 28 townships. Their number was gradually reduced to 17 by 1926.

The Veliky Ustyug district was at first part of the Arkhangelsk gubernia, which was abolished in 1719. And for this reason he joined the Vologda governorship.

Kadnikovskiy district was quite large. Its area was 17.5 thousand square meters.

Solvychegodsky uyezd in 1708 became part of the province. It was divided into 13 volosts.
